The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abbott Jr darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Abbott Jr is stalling here. Cruz is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Abbott Jr seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cruz has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Cruz decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Abbott Jr shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cruz napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Abbott Jr tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Abbott Jr has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Abbott Jr swings around for an armbar but Cruz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Abbott Jr's guard.

Abbott Jr has his foot on Cruz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cruz works his way back into a safe position though.
