Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Paighn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wood might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Like Weeds by His Hero Is Gone. George Wood had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Phil Paighn!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paighn throws a leg kick but Wood sees it coming and moves out of range.
An inside leg kick from Paighn misses.
Wood looks to score with a jab to the body but Paighn is just out of range.
Paighn takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Wood throws a combination. Paighn tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A head kick misses from Paighn.

Wood jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Phil Paighn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paighn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Wood counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Paighn fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Wood shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Paighn is trying to defend but Wood finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wood uses his free foot to push down on Paighn's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Paighn.

Wood jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Paighn is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Paighn and Wood has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Wood goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Paighn rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Wood's guard! Nice work there by Paighn!
Wood manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Paighn manages to get himself to full guard.
