PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Fraser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Shankar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fraser comes to the cage accompanied by Sirius. Shankar is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Them Belly Full" by Bob Marley. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donald Fraser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andre Shankar!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shankar takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Fraser misses with a right hand
and Shankar counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A punch combination from Fraser misses.
Fraser misses the body punch
and Shankar counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fraser. Shankar does a little dance to reset his feet.
Fraser lands a nice hook to Shankar's body. Shankar takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Fraser closes the distance but Shankar moves to the side
and Shankar cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Shankar keeps the fight on the outside.

Shankar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Fraser's guard.

Fraser pushes Shankar off and gets back to his feet.
A low kick from Fraser is predictable there

and Shankar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shankar trying to control the position from guard on top but Fraser is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shankar controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Shankar wants to control from the top but Fraser keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Andre Shankar wasn't active enough on the ground.
Shankar ducks right into an uppercut from Fraser.
Fraser cracks a nice hook into Shankar's ribs.
Fraser throws a right hand that Shankar ducks under and follows up with a left that Shankar also avoids with ease.
Shankar swats away the attempt to clinch by Fraser.

Shankar gets tackled into the cage by Fraser. Fraser maintains the clinch.
Shankar can't get the takedown.
Fraser throws a punch but it's blocked by Shankar.
Shankar tries for a takedown. No joy.
A head punch on the inside from Fraser fails to land.

Fraser breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fraser chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Fraser swinging wildly here.
Shankar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fraser but Fraser pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Donald Fraser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andre Shankar.

Shankar closes the distance and clinches.
Shankar tries to score a body lock takedown but Fraser shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Shankar is trying to drag Fraser to the mat but Fraser just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Fraser lands with a right to the head.
Fraser working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Fraser scores with a shot to the side of Shankar's head.
Shankar drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Fraser gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Fraser lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Shankar backwards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fraser works on Shankar's body with a couple of short punches.
Shankar goes for a takedown attempt but Fraser pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Fraser connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Shankar momentarily.
Fraser throws a one two combo.

Fraser throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fraser looks to land a left hand but Shankar moved out of range nicely.
Fraser takes a swing at Shankar's ribcage but misses.
Fraser digs a good hook to Shankar's body.
Jab, jab by Fraser - just one landing.
Fraser throws a low kick but Shankar avoids it.
Fraser throws the left hand but Shankar avoids the punch easily.
Fraser attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Good standup being displayed there by Fraser as he connects with a hook.
Fraser fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shankar manages to avoid it.
Fraser throws a big shot that misses.
A right-left combo lands from Fraser.
Fraser lands with a shot to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fraser fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Fraser scores with a one two! Shankar had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Shankar steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fraser.
Donald Fraser is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fraser shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Shankar moves out of range of the leg kick from Fraser.
A punch lands to the side of Shankar 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Shankar has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Shankar there as he acknowledges the shot.
Fraser cracks Shankar with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Fraser is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Fraser throws a right and a left that both miss.
A left lands for Fraser.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shankar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fraser.
Fraser throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shankar.
Fraser moves to clinch but Shankar breaks away

and Shankar counters with a single leg into guard. Fraser didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donald Fraser dominated that round.

Shankar gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Fraser.
Fraser misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Shankar counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Fraser has an active guard here but Shankar has managed to pass into half guard.

Shankar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fraser sees it coming and defends easily.
Shankar takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Shankar is trying to work for a kimura but Fraser is defending well.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Fraser wants to get back to full guard.

Shankar is keen to just control but Fraser is a slippery customer.
Shankar is looking to advance position but Fraser won't allow it.
Shankar prevents Fraser from improving his position.
Shankar stops Fraser from getting back to his feet.
Fraser is looking for a sweep. Shankar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fraser wants to sweep but Shankar has passed to side control!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shankar trying to control the action but Fraser is working from the bottom.
Fraser looks to move to half guard but instead Shankar has passed into mount! Damn!

Fraser has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Fraser tries to escape but Shankar has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Fraser is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Fraser is having to fend off submission attempts from Shankar, who is looking to sink in the choke. Shankar doesn't have the hooks in though and Fraser manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Shankar is working an open guard so Fraser takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Fraser throws an off balance right hand

and Shankar counters with a single leg into guard. Fraser didn't expect that.
Fraser wants to improve his position but instead Shankar has moved into half guard.
Fraser wants to improve his position but Shankar is controlling well.
Shankar wants to take a breather but Fraser is having none of it.
Fraser is pressing down on Shankar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Shankar wants to control from the top but Fraser keeps moving.

Andre Shankar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Fraser ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Fraser swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fraser throws an off balance right hand

and Shankar counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Shankar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fraser swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fraser will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Fraser working for a triangle but Shankar defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fraser manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shankar manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fraser pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shankar is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fraser is working hard here to advance position.
Fraser is looking to work some ground and pound but Shankar has wrist control.
Fraser passes easily into side control. Nice work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shankar is refusing to be controlled, as Fraser sits in half guard.
Fraser missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Fraser wants to pass the guard but Shankar is defending well.
Fraser stops Shankar from getting back to his feet.
Fraser looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shankar with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Fraser throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Fraser is working for a submission of some sort.
Fraser is pressing down on Shankar's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shankar is holding on for now.
Fraser not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Fraser missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Fraser thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fraser seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shankar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Fraser thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Shankar to regain full guard.
Fraser slips nicely into half guard.
Fraser thows a huge punch but Shankar dodges it nicely.
Andre Shankar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shankar wants to get back to his feet.
Fraser wants to free his trapped foot but Shankar is holding on for dear life with his legs.

And that's the end of the fight!
Donald Fraser showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Fraser has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
