PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Meru Otonashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jethro Walrustitty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Otonashi comes to the cage accompanied by Kuusou Rumba (GSZS OP1 Ver.). Walrustitty has chosen The Fish Slapping Dance as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Meru Otonashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jethro Walrustitty!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Otonashi throws a front kick aimed at Walrustitty's knee but Walrustitty avoids it well.
Otonashi swings widly with a right hand
and Walrustitty counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walrustitty fails with the takedown
and Otonashi counters with a straight right hand.
Walrustitty takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Walrustitty checks a leg kick.
Otonashi throws a sloppy head kick

and Walrustitty counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Walrustitty trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Otonashi has his hands on Walrustitty's head, controlling the position.
Walrustitty postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Otonashi has control of Walrustitty's left arm, preventing Walrustitty from doing any damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Walrustitty passes into half guard.

Otonashi is defending against the submission attempts here by Walrustitty.
Otonashi is trying to maintain the position but Walrustitty is very close to passing his half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Meru Otonashi just wasn't active enough.
Otonashi throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Walrustitty counters with a nice double leg into side control. Otonashi won't be happy with that.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Walrustitty taking a break here but Otonashi is having none of it and regains half guard.

Walrustitty is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Otonashi is just riding it out for now. Walrustitty eventually gives up the hold.
Otonashi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Walrustitty is working away from the top position though.
Walrustitty is looking to take a break and control but Otonashi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Otonashi wants to improve his position but Walrustitty is controlling well.

Walrustitty is working for a kimura but Otonashi is defending it quite comfortably.
Walrustitty looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Otonashi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Otonashi trying to control but Walrustitty postures up.
Otonashi tries to get to full guard but Walrustitty has control of the leg.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Otonashi throws a big shot that misses.
Otonashi fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Walrustitty shoots in and bounces Otonashi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Walrustitty trying to control the position from guard on top but Otonashi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Otonashi lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Walrustitty!
Otonashi fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Walrustitty is bucking up trying to escape but Otonashi cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Walrustitty gets back to half guard.
Walrustitty is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Otonashi is trying to control the action in half guard but Walrustitty is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Otonashi is stalling here. Walrustitty is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Otonashi seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Walrustitty has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Otonashi is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Walrustitty is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Walrustitty has control of Otonashi's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Otonashi regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Otonashi wants to hold on but Walrustitty pushes him away.
Otonashi is trying to escape the mount.
Walrustitty trying to control but Otonashi is having none of it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Walrustitty is landing with some decent strikes but Otonashi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jethro Walrustitty showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Otonashi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Walrustitty was well out of range. Poor timing from Otonashi.
Otonashi throws a head kick that misses.

Walrustitty closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Otonashi tries to roll over but Walrustitty keeps him under control.

Walrustitty has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Otonashi is looking to control Walrustitty's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Otonashi avoid being mounted?

Walrustitty is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Otonashi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Walrustitty.
