Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Guy Downs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch but Downs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Downs connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. A right-left combo lands from Downs. Gracie misses with a takedown attempt and Downs counters with a shoot takedown. Gracie fights it but they end up in guard. Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Downs defends it easily. Downs has gone for a leg lock! Gracie slips out almost immediately though and dives into Downs's guard. Gracie wants to pass the guard but Downs is keeping the position. Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Gracie postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Downs wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Downs is on top in guard.
Downs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Gracie trying to keep a closed guard but Downs is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie keeping moving, preventing Downs from controlling successfully. Gracie keeping full guard, as Downs tries to pass. Gracie looking for a guillotine here but Downs defends easily.
Downs trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Downs looking to pass the guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Downs stands and throws Gracie's legs to the side, diving into side control. Downs working away. Downs tries to advance position but instead Gracie slips a leg back in to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Downs trying to mount his opponent but Gracie defends it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Downs seems to be looking for submissions.
Gracie is looking for a sweep. Downs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Downs is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracie is just riding it out for now. Downs eventually gives up the hold. Gracie is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Downs wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy. Gracie actively working from the bottom here. Gracie tries to roll over but Downs keeps him under control. Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Gracie looking to control.
Downs passes Gracie's left leg - he's now in half guard. Gracie is trying to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Downs fails with a takedown attempt. Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Gracie fails with an attempt to clinch.
Downs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gracie tries to avoid it but Downs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gracie to the ground. Gracie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown and Downs counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Gracie is not content to let Downs control the position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Gracie defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Downs. Gracie wants to hold on but Downs pushes him away. Downs with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Downs looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Downs tries to control but Gracie wriggling away. Gracie is trying to escape the mount.
Downs is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gracie to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gracie shrugs it off. Downs has control of Gracie's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gracie regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Downs looking to control but Gracie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Gracie holds on for dear life. Downs prevents Gracie from getting the reversal. Downs has hold of Gracie's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gracie manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Gracie has left one of his arms exposed and Downs doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Gracie screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
