PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Devon Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Zarch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Devon Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Zarch!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zarch drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Garcia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Zarch wanted to stand there but Garcia had control of the position.

Zarch drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Garcia manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Zarch has Garcia in his guard.
Garcia prevents Zarch from getting back to his feet.

Zarch throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Garcia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Garcia wants to control from the top but Zarch keeps moving.

Zarch is looking for a triangle but Garcia pushes his legs off easily.

Zarch had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Garcia defends it easily.

Garcia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zarch has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Garcia has managed to get both his arms back between Zarch's legs - danger averted.
Zarch is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Zarch has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Garcia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zarch.

Zarch is not content to let Garcia control the position.
Zarch is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Garcia decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Zarch is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Zarch is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Zarch is working for a submission of some sort.

Garcia is defending against the submission attempts here by Zarch.

Garcia gets back to full guard.

Zarch decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Garcia drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Garcia wants to control but Zarch is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zarch manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Zarch looking for submissions off his back.

Garcia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zarch keeps working.

Zarch is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Garcia pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Zarch dominated that round.

Zarch is trying hard to land a takedown here. Garcia sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Zarch stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Garcia defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Zarch.
Zarch misses with a takedown attempt - Garcia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Devon Garcia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Zarch.

Zarch shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Garcia manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zarch gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Zarch shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Garcia as he avoids it easily.

and Zarch counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Zarch is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Garcia is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Garcia has escaped and now he's on top!

Zarch has his foot on Garcia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Garcia works his way back into a safe position though.

Garcia would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Zarch is looking for a triangle but Garcia pushes his legs off easily.

Zarch is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Garcia is aware though and is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Zarch has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Garcia doesn't defend quickly enough and Zarch has managed to lock this one up! Can Garcia escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Zarch on a fantastic submission victory.
