PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lark McTeague (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Hand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McTeague comes into the arena with Alphaville - Forever Young blaring out of the sound system. Hand comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Ladies and Gentlemen kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lark McTeague!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dan Hand!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hand throws a right and a left that McTeague avoids nicely.
McTeague on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
McTeague avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hand throws an ugly left hook that misses
and McTeague counters with a stiff right hand.
McTeague uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hand.
McTeague swings widly with a right hand
and Hand counters with a left and a right that stings McTeague.
Hand lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Hand throws a sloppy body shot
and McTeague counters with a straight right hand.
Hand fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hand swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and McTeague counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hand won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McTeague is looking to take a break and control but Hand is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hand is looking for a sweep.
McTeague in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Hand struggling a bit here.

McTeague cracks Hand with a big elbow.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Hand can't do much from the bottom here.
Hand takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Hand is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
McTeague working the ground and pound from side control.
McTeague in side control, throwing shots but Hand defends.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hand tries to escape but McTeague is in control.
You can see the frustration on Hand's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

McTeague postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
McTeague wants to control but Hand is keeping him busy.
The ground and pound from McTeague seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Hand really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McTeague. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hand is pushing McTeague's head away, looking to escape. McTeague manages to hold on to the position though.
Hand is not content to let McTeague control the position.
McTeague throwing shots but missing, from side control.
McTeague trying to control the action but Hand is working from the bottom.
Hand is looking for a sweep.

McTeague is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hand knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hand is trying to improve his position.
Hand is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hand can do anything to dispel that myth.
McTeague trying to control the position but Hand is working away.
McTeague grinds an elbow into Hand's temple.
Hand wants to control but McTeague postures up.
I wouldn't like to be where Hand is right now.
Hand on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Hand tries to bench press McTeague off him but McTeague keeps the position.

Hand is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McTeague is controlling him well.
Hand regains half guard, as McTeague was trying to land strikes.
McTeague working the head and body with strikes.
McTeague missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Hand is looking to escape.
Hand looks gassed!
McTeague looks to land a strike but Hand avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McTeague trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hand wants to get back to his feet but McTeague is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

McTeague is in close to Hand's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hand has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

McTeague landing with the ground and pound.
McTeague has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McTeague trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hand can't keep his opponent in guard - McTeague advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
McTeague not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Hand is trying to stand back up but McTeague is controlling him
Hand is in trouble now - McTeague has advanced to mount!
Hand is in a horrible position here. McTeague smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
McTeague postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Hand badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of McTeague around the waist but McTeague pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! McTeague is the winner by TKO! McTeague jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lark McTeague!
