Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ron James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakobi Smithy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithy has chosen Korn: "Freak on a Leash" as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jakobi Smithy! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Smithy pushes James up against the cage in a clinch. Smithy lands a right hand. Smithy throws a knee to the head but misses.

James has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Smithy uses from the top position. James had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smithy defends it easily. Smithy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smithy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. James has his foot on Smithy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smithy works his way back into a safe position though. James pulls Smithy in to control the position. Smithy passes James's left leg - he's now in half guard. Smithy thows a huge punch but James dodges it nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. Smithy frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Smithy throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
BOOM! Smithy connects with a massive shot to the dome!
It looks like Ron James has been cut. Smithy looking to control but James is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. James tries to reverse the position but Smithy maintains control. Smithy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smithy trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James is looking to improve his position but Smithy isn't that keen on the idea. James bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! James scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Smithy keeping full guard, as James tries to pass. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Smithy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James throwing strikes but missing. James with a flurry of punches that miss. Smithy is trying to hold James in close to prevent damage but James has managed to pass into half guard.
Smithy is pressing down on James's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. James throws and elbow that misses. Smithy uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Smithy! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. James looking for a guillotine here but Smithy defends easily.

James wants to sweep but no luck. Smithy wants to control from the top but James keeps moving. Smithy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but James manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smithy has James in his guard. James throws a strike but Smithy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jakobi Smithy will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Ron James's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Smithy tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smithy to the ground. Smithy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nice uppercut there from Smithy. Smithy throws a leg kick and James counters with a straight punch to the midsection. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as James checks a leg kick. Smithy goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Smithy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smithy wants it to stay on the feet. James pushing out the jab but it's not landing. James checks the leg kick nicely there.

James scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Some bone on bone action there as James checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

and James counters with a lovely shot to the body. James throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Smithy has closed the distance and engaged James in a clinch.

James throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Smithys head. Smithy is looking to break free of the clinch but James has double underhooks. Come on James - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Smithy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Smithy trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smithy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smithy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Smithy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard. Smithy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. James wants to sweep here but Smithy controlling him for the moment. Smithy lands a couple of elbows. Smithy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! James is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! James has escaped and now he's on top! James drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smithy dives on top into guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Jakobi Smithy will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Ron James's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Jakobi Smithy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. James works the jab nicely. Smithy stuffs the takedown attempt from James. James gets slowly back to his feet. Smithy moves out of range as James throws a body kick.

James tries to land a front kick but Smithy steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Smithy cracks James with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Smithy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James. James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Smithy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Smithy tries to roll over but James keeps him under control. James is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. James is looking for a kimura.
