PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Damien Stones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stones kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is T2 Theme by Austrian Death Machine. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Damien Stones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Hall!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stones takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Hall moves out of range as Stones throws a body kick.
Stones swings widly with a right hand
and Hall counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Stones misses with a straight left.
Hall scores with a body shot.
Stones throws a good cross that connects.
Stones rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hall counters with a straight right hand.
Hall misses with an uppercut. Stones saw that one coming.
Hall avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stones fails to land with a series of punches.
Stones avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hall lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Stones at a distance.
Damien Stones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stones avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hall lands a nice looking body shot.
Hall connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Hall falls off balance throwing a combination
and Stones counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Stones misses with a left hand

and Hall counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Stones!
Hall tries to control but Stones wriggling away.
A nice elbow there by Hall.
Hall is looking to work his way around to Stones's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Hall has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stones tries to hold on but Hall postures up.
Hall in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Hall has control of Stones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stones regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Hall lands with some strikes.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hall is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Stones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Stones is looking to improve his position but Hall isn't that keen on the idea.
Stones is working hard here to advance position.
Hall tries to control but Stones wriggling away.

Hall goes for an armbar but Stones turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Stones.
Hall scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hall tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hall keeping full guard, as Stones tries to pass.
Hall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hall working for a triangle but Stones defends it easily.
Hall not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Stones is looking to work some ground and pound but Hall has wrist control.

Hall had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stones defends it easily.
Hall pulls Stones in to control the position.
Stones is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hall can't keep his opponent in guard - Stones advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Hall is looking to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Hall dominated that round.
That's time! Stones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hall blocks a jab.

Hall scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hall has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Hall jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Stones is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Stones and Hall has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Stones tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Hall swings around for an armbar but Stones sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hall's guard.
Stones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hall is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stones is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hall keeping moving, preventing Stones from controlling successfully.

Hall working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hall is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Stones is looking to work some ground and pound but Hall has wrist control.

Stones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hall has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stones has managed to get both his arms back between Hall's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hall looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Stones landing some decent shots from guard.

Stones is posturing up here but Hall has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Stones tries to roll out but it's too tight and Stones has to tap! Slick submission there by Hall!
