PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Lepeon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Coples (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fred Coples struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 206.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lepeon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Coples fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lepeon sprawls well initially but Coples persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Lepeon is trying to stand back up but Coples is controlling him
Lepeon is breathing heavily.
Coples thows a huge punch but Lepeon dodges it nicely.

Coples postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Lepeon to stand up.

Coples shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Coples was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Coples lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Lepeon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Coples on the ground.

It looks like Coples might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lepeon takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Coples lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lepeon at a distance.

Coples throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lepeon was covering up waiting for the punch and Coples finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Coples tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lepeon knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Coples working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Coples is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lepeon defends it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Coples has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Fred Coples wasn't active enough on the ground.
Coples throws a head kick but Lepeon moves out of range.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Coples tries to score a body lock takedown but Lepeon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

You get the feeling that Lepeon really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Lepeon pushes Coples off looking to stand but Coples dives back in and keeps control.
Lepeon is trying to escape back to his feet but Coples uses the scramble to pass into side control.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lepeon enables Coples to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lepeon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Well Coples has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
