Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frankie Edgar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aliff Asyraf! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edgar shoots and misses and Edgar takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Asyraf looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Edgar tries to clinch up and Asyraf counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Asyraf misses with a takedown attempt and Edgar counters with a nice double leg into guard. Asyraf looking to hit a scissor sweep but Edgar is one step ahead there. Edgar tries to free his leg and advance position but Asyraf is retaining full guard. Edgar trying to control the position from guard on top but Asyraf is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Edgar looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edgar controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Frankie Edgar wasn't doing enough on the ground. Asyraf circles away from the clinch attempt.
Danga de danga de dang - Edgar scores with a four punch combination! Nice takedown defense from Asyraf. No joy for Edgar on that attempt. Edgar misses with a head kick.
Asyraf takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Edgar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Asyraf sprawls well. Asyraf wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Edgar gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frankie Edgar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Edgar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Asyraf looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Edgar controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Asyraf keeps control of the position as Edgar tries to break free.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Asyraf working for a choke but Edgar is defending well. Edgar controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Asyraf controls the position. Asyraf has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Edgar has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Asyraf is hanging on to Edgar's back as he tries to escape.
Edgar staying busy and making it hard for Asyraf to control. Edgar trying to control the hands but Asyraf won't let him. Edgar is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Asyraf is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frankie Edgar dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Edgar ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Edgar forces Asyraf back against the cage and clinches. Asyraf changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Edgar fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Edgar throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Asyraf was covering up waiting for the punch and Edgar finishes the takedown easily into guard. Edgar preventing the sweep. Asyraf preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Edgar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Edgar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Asyraf controls Edgar momentarily but Edgar frees himself. Edgar landing with the ground and pound. Asyraf wants to sweep but no luck. Asyraf is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Asyraf keeping moving, preventing Edgar from controlling successfully. Edgar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Asyraf swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Edgar wants to control from the top but Asyraf keeps moving. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Asyraf has a closed guard, preventing Edgar from standing up.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Frankie Edgar wasn't doing enough on the ground. Asyraf keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Edgar throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Asyraf counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Well, if Asyraf is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Asyraf seems to be looking for submissions.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edgar trying to control from the bottom.
Edgar won't allow Asyraf to pass to mount. Edgar wants to get back to full guard. Asyraf decides to stand and escape the position. Edgar motions for Asyraf to come forward. Edgar throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Edgar tries to clinch and Asyraf counters by moving into the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Edgar is trying to drag Asyraf to the mat but Asyraf just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Edgar has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Asyraf is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frankie Edgar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Edgar jumps guard but Asyraf stands there with Edgar around his waist. Edgar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Edgar wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Asyraf has him pressed against the cage. Asyraf prevents a takedown attempt there.
Edgar is trying to maintain a safe position but Asyraf gets an underhook and turns Edgar into the cage. Edgar jumps guard but Asyraf stands there with Edgar around his waist. Edgar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Asyraf pulls guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aliff Asyraf showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Edgar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Asyraf's guard. Edgar trying to control but Asyraf is working from the bottom. Edgar stopping the sweep attempt from Asyraf. Edgar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Asyraf on the ground. Edgar content to stall in guard here. Edgar wants to stand but Asyraf is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Edgar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Asyraf pushes Edgar off and scrambles back to his feet.
Edgar tries to clinch there but Asyraf circles away.
Edgar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Edgar closes the distance looking to clinch and Asyraf counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Edgar's guard now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Asyraf not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Aliff Asyraf has got the better of the ground game so far. Edgar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Asyraf decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Edgar shoots in for a double leg but Asyraf sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Edgar tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Asyraf counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Well, if Asyraf is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Asyraf tries to pass the half guard into mount. Edgar knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Edgar is trying to maintain the position but Asyraf is very close to passing his half guard. Asyraf seems to be working for a kimura but Edgar defends the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Edgar is looking for a sweep. Asyraf is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Edgar wants to control but Asyraf is keeping busy and won't allow it. Asyraf is looking to advance position but Edgar won't allow it. Asyraf is looking for a kimura here.

And that's the end of the fight! Aliff Asyraf comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Asyraf has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
