Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Akseli Pystyrupi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wilhelm Steyer!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steyer misses with an uppercut. Pystyrupi saw that one coming.
Steyer fails with a takedown attempt.

Pystyrupi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Pystyrupi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Pystyrupi cracks Steyer with a big right hand but Steyer just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Pystyrupi swings around for an armbar but Steyer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pystyrupi's guard.
Steyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Pystyrupi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pystyrupi is striking but Steyer is not phased and passes to half guard.

Pystyrupi looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Steyer wants to pass the guard but Pystyrupi is defending well.

Steyer trying to control from Pystyrupi's half guard. Pystyrupi has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Steyer won't allow Pystyrupi to sweep him here.

Pystyrupi had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Steyer is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Pystyrupi Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Steyer's back instead.

Pystyrupi is breathing heavily.

Pystyrupi is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Steyer is defending well though. Pystyrupi let's go of the attempt for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pystyrupi is trying to stick to Steyer's back but Steyer is turning into Pystyrupi. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pystyrupi's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Steyer.

Steyer is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Steyer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Steyer passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Steyer tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Steyer wants to control but Pystyrupi is keeping him busy.

Steyer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pystyrupi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Pystyrupi is looking to regain half guard here but Steyer keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Pystyrupi avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Pystyrupi shoots in and bounces Steyer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Pystyrupi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pystyrupi is pushing down on Steyer's leg trying to pass to half guard. Steyer is fighting to maintain full guard but Pystyrupi has managed to sneak the leg through.

Pystyrupi seems to be working for a kimura but Steyer defends the submission attempt.
Steyer trying to hold on to Pystyrupi's head to control him but Pystyrupi postures up.
Pystyrupi is tying to control. Steyer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Pystyrupi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Steyer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pystyrupi.

Pystyrupi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pystyrupi is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Steyer!
Steyer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akseli Pystyrupi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A choreographed right hand from Steyer misses the target.
Pystyrupi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Steyer finds it's way round the side to connect with Pystyrupi's head.

Steyer tries to keep at a distance but Pystyrupi has taken the fight into the clinch.
Steyer can't break the clinch.
Pystyrupi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Steyer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Steyer tries for a takedown but Pystyrupi manages to get underhooks.

Steyer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pystyrupi is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Steyer to the mat. Steyer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Steyer smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Steyer is looking for a sweep.

Steyer is rocked!

Pystyrupi has hold of Steyer's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Steyer tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Pystyrupi cranks the arm and Steyer screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Steyer, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Akseli Pystyrupi!
