PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alistair OShea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). OShea has chosen The Kings as his entrance music. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alistair OShea!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OShea shoots in for a double leg but Hogan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hogan is breathing heavily.

Hogan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hogan wants to lay and pray for a moment but OShea keeps working.
OShea tries to roll over but Hogan keeps him under control.

OShea actively working from the bottom here.
OShea has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hogan is working away from the top position though.
Hogan trying to control the action but OShea is working from the bottom.

Hogan stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows OShea to get to his feet.
OShea shoots and misses
and Hogan counters with an outside leg kick.
Hogan tries to bum rush OShea with a series of wild strikes but OShea uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

OShea shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
OShea is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hogan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
OShea putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Hogan is trying desperately to improve position.

OShea goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hogan turns into him and now he's in OShea's guard.
Hogan wants to control from the top but OShea keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OShea has his foot on Hogan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hogan works his way back into a safe position though.
Hogan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of OShea's head.

Hogan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

OShea looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

OShea isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hogan stacks OShea on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hogan!

Hogan stands up.

OShea looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells OShea's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

OShea is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hogan pulls OShea in close to prevent any damage.
Hogan wants to stand and escape but OShea is having none of it.

OShea passes into half guard.

OShea is looking for a kimura here.
Hogan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hogan wants to control but OShea is keeping busy and won't allow it.
OShea with the ground and pound but Hogan uses the opportunity to regain guard.
OShea stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hogan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hogan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hogan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hogan is really struggling to control OShea but he's trying to hold on to the position.
OShea pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hogan is keeping the position for now.
OShea has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

OShea decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Hogan gets caught flat footed, as OShea shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

OShea is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hogan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hogan has escaped and now he's on top!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hogan lands with a punch from half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. OShea manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alistair OShea dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



OShea closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hogan gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
OShea passes to side control.

OShea is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hogan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

OShea working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Hogan wants to control but OShea postures up.
OShea wants to control but Hogan is keeping him busy.
Hogan on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
OShea works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
OShea grinds an elbow into Hogan's temple.

Hogan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but OShea wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OShea decides to stand back up. OShea steps back and let's Hogan get back to his feet.
Hogan tries for a takedown but OShea sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
OShea scores with a decent looking hook.
OShea swats away the attempt to clinch by Hogan.
No luck for Hogan with that takedown attempt.
OShea lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

OShea tries to keep at a distance but Hogan has taken the fight into the clinch.

so Hogan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Paul Hogan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alistair OShea.

OShea wants to sweep here but Hogan controlling him for the moment.

Hogan stands and throws OShea's legs to the side, diving into side control.
OShea is trying to improve his position.

Hogan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by OShea, who protects the arm well.
Hogan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Hogan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt OShea will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hogan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but OShea does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hogan not landing any meaningful shots this time.
OShea is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hogan is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, OShea has managed to free his arm - good work.
OShea is trying to maintain the position but Hogan is very close to passing his half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
OShea shoots in and drives through. Hogan sprawls well.
Alistair OShea seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hogan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
OShea showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hogan.
Hogan gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Paul Hogan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hogan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in OShea's guard.

OShea is looking for a triangle here but Hogan uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
OShea wants to get back to his feet but Hogan drags him back down.
OShea tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Hogan stands up.
OShea has his takedown stuffed

and Hogan counters by clinching up.
OShea is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hogan is keeping busy.

That's time! Hogan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Hogan drives through and clinches with OShea against the cage.
OShea jumps guard but Hogan stands there with OShea around his waist. OShea gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

OShea tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hogan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Hogan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hogan shoots in looking for a takedown. OShea tries to sprawl out of it but Hogan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. OShea manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hogan wanted to stand there but OShea had control of the position.
OShea is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hogan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of OShea's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take OShea's back!
OShea rolls, trying to escape but Hogan keeps control of the position.

Hogan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in OShea's guard.

OShea escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hogan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OShea is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

OShea lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hogan!

and Hogan counters with a shoot takedown. OShea fights it but they end up in guard.

Hogan is posturing up here but OShea has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Hogan tries to roll out but it's too tight and Hogan has to tap! Slick submission there by OShea!
