Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andizle McDonnell! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Penn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Penn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Penn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, McDonnell has managed to free his arm - good work. McDonnell tries to roll over but Penn keeps him under control. Penn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Penn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for McDonnell! Penn punishing his opponent with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. McDonnell can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Penn has control of McDonnell's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and McDonnell regains control of the situation pretty easily.
McDonnell is looking to improve his position but Penn isn't that keen on the idea. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn avoids the attempt from McDonnell to control. Penn working McDonnell over with strikes here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Penn with the ground and pound from mount. Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. McDonnell tries to hold on but Penn pushes him away. Penn swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
