PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Strader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vlad Tepez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strader comes to the cage accompanied by Sick Puppies-You're Going Down. Tepez has chosen Ministry - NWO as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Strader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vlad Tepez!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Dean Styles and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tepez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Strader.
Strader takes one to the chin there.
Strader misses with a body shot.
Tepez misses with an uppercut. Strader saw that one coming.
Tepez throws a left and a right that both miss

and Strader counters with a shoot takedown. Tepez fights it but they end up in guard.

Strader postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tepez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Strader, into his guard.
Strader is trying to keep Tepez in close.
Tepez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tepez is fighting to break Strader's control of his arms but Strader is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Tepez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Tepez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tepez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tepez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Strader is proving hard to escape from.

Tepez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Strader dives on top into guard.
Strader forces his way into half guard.
Strader wants to pass to mount but Tepez is defending the position.
Tepez is refusing to be controlled, as Strader sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tepez wants to get back to full guard.

Strader is working for a submission of some sort.
Strader is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Tepez reverses the position - he's now on top in Strader's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Tepez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Strader has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tepez has managed to get both his arms back between Strader's legs - danger averted.

Tepez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Strader is trying to keep Tepez in close.
Strader is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Strader is trying to control. Tepez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Tepez wants to control but Strader is keeping busy.

Strader is working for a submission of some sort.
Strader trying to control the action but Tepez is working from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Strader passes to full mount!

Strader working for a submission but Tepez is keeping him at bay.
Tepez is looking to get to half guard.

Strader jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tepez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tepez and Strader has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Tepez looks to throw the jab but Strader is out of range.

Tepez moves into the clinch.
Tepez lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Strader connects with a knee to the head.
Tepez is trying to break the clinch but Strader is controlling him.
Tepez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Strader fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Strader goes for a takedown attempt but Tepez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Strader takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


It looks like Vlad Tepez has been cut.
Tepez lands a really nice looking cross but Strader seems unphased.
Tepez scores with a nice head shot.
Strader throws a combination that misses
and Tepez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tepez on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Tepez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Strader walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Tepez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Strader paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tepez shoots in and drives through. Strader sprawls well.
Tepez throws a big shot that misses.
Vlad Tepez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Strader misses with a takedown attempt - Tepez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tepez connects with a single shot there.
Strader has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Tepez finds it's way round the side to connect with Strader's head.
Strader fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Tepez is breathing heavily.

Strader misses with a combination
and Tepez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Strader will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Strader misses with a hook. Tepez ducked under it nicely.
Tepez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tepez looks to land a left hand but Strader moved out of range nicely.

Strader looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tepez wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Strader swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Strader ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tepez moves away.
Tepez misses with a straight right.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tepez tries to clinch up but Strader circles away and keeps his distance.
Jason Strader is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tepez walks into a left hand.
Tepez waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Strader.
Tepez throws an off balance right hand
enabling Strader to counter with a crisp jab.
Tepez shoots in looking for a takedown. Strader tries to sprawl out of it but Tepez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Strader manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jason Strader has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vlad Tepez.

Tepez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Strader's head backwards.

Strader feints and as Tepez raises his hands in defense, Strader changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Strader drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tepez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tepez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tepez!

Strader is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tepez off and has taken his back!

Tepez turns into Strader and is now in his guard.

Strader working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tepez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tepez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tepez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Tepez takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Tepez lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Strader backwards.

Tepez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Strader has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Tepez uses from the top position.

Tepez wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Tepez might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Tepez throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Strader's head.
Tepez tries to close the distance and clinch but Strader swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Tepez lunges at Strader with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Strader's hand.

Tepez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Tepez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Strader is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Tepez wants to pass the guard but Strader is keeping the position.

Strader avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Strader is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Strader isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tepez stacks Strader on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tepez!

Tepez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Strader is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jason Strader overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tepez cracks Strader with a big right hand but Strader just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Strader is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Tepez's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Tepez is looking to take a break and control but Strader is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are battling for position here. Strader manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Strader is on top in guard.
Jason Strader is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Vlad Tepez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Strader has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
