PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Bader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xander Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bader's entrance music is 50 Cent - I'll Whip Ya Head Boy. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Bader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Xander Cage!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cage drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bader regains half guard.
Bader trying to hold on to Cage's head to control him but Cage postures up.
Bader is controlling Cage's trapped leg to prevent Cage from advancing to side control.
Cage missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cage throwing shots but Bader is blocking nicely.
Cage seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bader does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cage lands with a punch from half guard.
Bader moves into full guard.
Bader controls Cage momentarily but Cage frees himself.
Bader keeping full guard, as Cage tries to pass.

Bader bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cage's guard.

Bader stands up from Cage's guard - Bader perhaps looking for a knockout.

Cage feints and as Bader raises his hands in defense, Cage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cage stays in close to Bader's body and controls the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bader is looking for a triangle but Cage pushes his legs off easily.
Bader is breathing heavily.
Cage engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Cage is looking to work some ground and pound but Bader has wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cage accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bader. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cage working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bader's head.
Cage must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bader swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cage looks to land a strike but Bader avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bader is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cage defends well.
Bader is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Bader wants to free his trapped foot but Cage is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ryan Bader.

Cage throws a series of punches but Bader avoids them all with ease.
Xander Cage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cage misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cage connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cage keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bader's head.

Xander Cage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cage has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
