PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Hughes!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Daniels is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hughes is aware though and is defending well.

Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but Daniels is retaining full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Daniels is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Daniels had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hughes defends it easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Daniels is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hughes defends well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hughes is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniels is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hughes wants to control from the top but Daniels keeps moving.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mark Hughes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Daniels fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hughes sprawls well initially but Daniels persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hughes flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hughes is trying to get back to full guard.
Hughes makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hughes.

Hughes throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Daniels thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Daniels gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hughes closes the distance looking to clinch

and Daniels counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Hughes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Daniels pulls his head out easily.
Daniels perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Daniels works his way into side control.

Daniels thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Daniels is trying to get an arm triangle but Hughes is defending well.
Hughes is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Daniels dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Hughes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hughes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Daniels's guard.
Daniels is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hughes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Daniels working for a triangle but Hughes defends it easily.

Daniels has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hughes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hughes is breathing heavily.
Hughes thows a big elbow that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes stands up out of Daniels's guard for a moment - Daniels manages to land a nice upkick.

Daniels has his feet on Hughes's thighs here. He's pushed Hughes off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Hughes screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
