PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Negrizolli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Botelho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Botelho is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by No Love. Lucas Negrizolli has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Negrizolli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Botelho!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Negrizolli drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Negrizolli is stalling in the full guard.
Botelho is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Botelho keeping moving, preventing Negrizolli from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Lucas Negrizolli wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Botelho shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Negrizolli decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Botelho's guard.
Negrizolli will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Botelho working a defensive guard but Negrizolli manages to pass into side control anyway.
Botelho tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Negrizolli decides to stand up, so the ref orders Botelho to his feet.
A head kick from Negrizolli lands but Botelho takes it in his stride.


It looks like John Botelho has been cut.
Negrizolli shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Botelho but Botelho pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Negrizolli closes the distance and pushes Botelho back into the cage.

Botelho tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Negrizolli smiles and moves away.

Negrizolli tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Botelho just stands there and leans against the cage.
Negrizolli has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Botelho avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Negrizolli. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Botelho drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Negrizolli gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Negrizolli gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Negrizolli moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Negrizolli bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Botelho's guard.
Negrizolli postures up.
Negrizolli is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Negrizolli closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Negrizolli lands in his opponent's guard.
Negrizolli wants to pass the guard but Botelho is keeping the position.
Negrizolli wants to control from the top but Botelho keeps moving.
Negrizolli is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Negrizolli has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Negrizolli stands up and waves to Botelho to follow him.
Lucas Negrizolli is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Botelho keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Negrizolli jumps guard but Botelho stands there with Negrizolli around his waist. Negrizolli gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Botelho ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Botelho no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Botelho wants to sweep here but Negrizolli controlling him for the moment.
Negrizolli postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Negrizolli stands up over Botelho, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Botelho wriggles free and stands up.

and Negrizolli counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Botelho wants to improve his position but Negrizolli is controlling well.
Negrizolli perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Botelho throws a strike from the bottom but Negrizolli passes into side control!

Negrizolli decides to stand back up. Negrizolli steps back and let's Botelho get back to his feet.

Negrizolli clinches up with Botelho and pushes him back against the cage.
Negrizolli changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Botelho fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Negrizolli shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Botelho wants to control but Negrizolli is having none of it.
Negrizolli cracks Botelho with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Negrizolli takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Botelho swats away the attempt to clinch by Negrizolli.
Negrizolli tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Botelho manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick from Botelho lands but Negrizolli takes it in his stride.

Negrizolli gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Botelho goes for a takedown attempt but Negrizolli pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Negrizolli closes this distance looking for a takedown but Botelho circles away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Negrizolli counters with a nice double leg into side control. Botelho won't be happy with that.

Negrizolli decides to stand back up. Negrizolli steps back and let's Botelho get back to his feet.

Negrizolli closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Botelho quickly recovers to half guard.

Negrizolli is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Lucas Negrizolli overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Negrizolli trying to mount his opponent but Botelho defends it.
Negrizolli stops Botelho from getting back to his feet.
Botelho has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Negrizolli is working away from the top position though.
Botelho is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Negrizolli stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Botelho wants to control from the top but Negrizolli keeps moving.

Negrizolli is working an open guard so Botelho takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Negrizolli moves in looking to clinch but Botelho pushes him off.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Negrizolli crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Botelho - the referee stops the clock and Negrizolli gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Botelho. Negrizolli manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Negrizolli moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Negrizolli is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Botelho's half guard.

Negrizolli stalling away here and it's allowed Botelho to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Negrizolli stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Botelho swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lucas Negrizolli showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Negrizolli has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
