PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Boys (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Saga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saga has chosen "Hail Destroyer" by Cancer Bats as his entrance music. Xavier Saga is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Teddy Boys!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Xavier Saga!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saga tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Boys counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Saga tries to clinch but Boys moves away
letting Boys counter with a right hand.

Boys gets tackled into the cage by Saga. Saga maintains the clinch.
Saga throws a knee to the head but misses.
Saga prevents Boys from breaking the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Saga just misses with a elbow thrown towards Boys's brow.
Saga wants to get back to striking at distance but Boys won't allow it.
Boys changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Saga fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Saga holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Boys blocks the elbow strike.

Saga misses with a knee strike.
Saga lands a damaging elbow.


It looks like Teddy Boys has been cut.
Boys takes a knee to the side of the body.

Boys lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Boys thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Saga's head.
Boys trying to control the action but Saga is working from the bottom.
Saga pushes Boys off looking to stand but Boys dives back in and keeps control.

Boys throws a strike but Saga avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Saga pushes Boys off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Saga moves to clinch but Boys breaks away

and Boys counters with a nice double leg into side control. Saga won't be happy with that.
Saga defending against the ground and pound.
Boys staying calm.
Boys has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Boys decides to stand back up. Boys steps back and let's Saga get back to his feet.

Saga shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boys is wriggling around trying to escape.
Saga looking to ground and pound but Boys is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boys is trying desperately to improve position.
Saga tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Saga looks gassed!
Boys wants to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boys throwing hammer fists to the chest of Saga. What's that going to do exactly?
Boys has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Saga tries to push Boys's head away but Boys is holding on tight.
Boys tries to reverse the position but Saga maintains control.
Saga looking to control but Boys is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Boys is desperately trying to improve his position but Saga has a good base and remains in mount.

Saga stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Saga shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Boys as he jumps to the side.

Saga tries to clinch

and Boys counters with a takedown into side control.
Boys works to advance to full mount. Saga defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Saga manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Boys with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Boys stands up out of the half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Saga darts in trying to clinch

and Boys counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Saga!
Boys thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Saga tries to clinch but Boys moves away

so Boys counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Boys controlling from the top position.
Saga keeping moving, preventing Boys from controlling successfully.
Saga looking to control.
Boys controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Teddy Boys just wasn't active enough.
A slow jab from Boys misses its intended target.

Saga wants to clinch

and Boys moves into the clinch.
Boys avoiding damage as Saga throws knees to the body.

Boys has picked Saga up - he's going for a ride! Boys dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Saga trying to control but Boys postures up.
Saga is breathing heavily.

Boys is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Saga defends it well.

Saga wants to get back to full guard.

Boys throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Boys looks to land a strike but Saga avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Boys prevents Saga from getting back to his feet.
Saga really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boys. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Boys is looking to work some ground and pound but Saga has wrist control.

Boys gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boys displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Saga tries to clinch

and Boys counters with a takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Boys is trying to get an arm triangle but Saga is defending well.

Saga wants to get back to his feet but Boys drags him back down.
Boys fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Boys wants to control but Saga is keeping him busy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Saga looks to move to half guard but instead Boys has passed into mount! Damn!
Saga sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Saga is refusing to be controlled, as Boys sits in half guard.
Saga is trying to stand back up but Boys is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saga is fighting off a takedown attempt but Boys is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Saga to the mat. Saga regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Boys passes Saga's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Boys decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Boys fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Saga moves to clinch but Boys breaks away

and Boys counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Saga!
Saga is trying to escape the mount.
Boys avoids the attempt from Saga to control.
Saga is looking to get to half guard.

Boys wants to take his opponent's back but Saga doesn't allow it.
Saga can't escape the position.
Saga blocking the ground and pound.

Boys tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Teddy Boys overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

and Boys counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Boys stops a takedown attempt from Saga.

Boys has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Saga clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Saga is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Boys.

Boys throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Xavier Saga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Teddy Boys is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Boys, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
