PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Konap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Furlong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Furlong has chosen Captain Bumout as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Felipe Konap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edward Furlong!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Furlong throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Konap.
Furlong with a poor takedown
and Konap counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Konap scores with a jab to the jaw.
Felipe Konap seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Konap swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Furlong counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Furlong wants to work for an arm triangle but Konap is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Furlong looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Furlong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Konap is just riding it out for now. Furlong eventually gives up the hold.

Furlong missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Furlong prevents Konap from improving his position.
Furlong is taking a breather. Konap says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Furlong thows a huge punch but Konap dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Furlong is pressing down on Konap's thigh, looking to free his foot. Konap is holding on for now.

Furlong seems to be looking for submissions.
Well, if Furlong is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Konap keeping control of the position.

Furlong is keen to just control but Konap is a slippery customer.

Furlong is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Konap tries to get to full guard but Furlong has control of the leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Furlong is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Konap has managed to free his arm - good work.
Furlong is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Furlong pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Furlong wants to control the action but instead Konap gets a body lock and reverses into Furlong's guard! Nice work!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edward Furlong dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Furlong shoots in looking for a takedown but Konap manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Furlong's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Konap scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Furlong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Furlong content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Furlong is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Konap knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Furlong cracks Konap with a big elbow.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Furlong swings around for an armbar but Konap sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Furlong's guard.
Konap trying to control but Furlong is working from the bottom.
Konap wants to get up but he can't break Furlong's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Furlong keeping full guard, as Konap tries to pass.
Furlong keeping moving, preventing Konap from controlling successfully.

Furlong has his feet on Konap's thighs here. He's pushed Konap off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Konap screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
