PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mark Grizwold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Carvalho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carvalho is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Vida Bandida. The key to victory for Mark Grizwold has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Grizwold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Carvalho!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grizwold tries for a takedown but Carvalho circles away easily
and Carvalho counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Grizwold tries a head kick but it misses.
Carvalho with a poor takedown

and Grizwold counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Grizwold.
Carvalho pulls Grizwold in close to prevent any damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Carvalho looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Marcelo Carvalho.

Grizwold closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Carvalho quickly recovers to half guard.
Grizwold tries to pass to full mount but Carvalho defends it.

Carvalho wants to control but Grizwold is keeping busy.
Carvalho manages to get to full guard.

Carvalho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grizwold doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grizwold manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Grizwold wants to stand but Carvalho is controlling his posture from full guard.
Carvalho has control of Grizwold's left arm, preventing Grizwold from doing any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grizwold trying to control but Carvalho is working from the bottom.

Carvalho pulls Grizwold in close to prevent any damage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Grizwold just wasn't active enough.

Grizwold decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Carvalho has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grizwold is working away from the top position though.
Grizwold wants to control but Carvalho is keeping him busy.
Carvalho keeping hold of Grizwold's head, controlling as best he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Carvalho counters with a single leg into guard. Grizwold didn't expect that.

Grizwold working for submissions but it's allowed Carvalho to get to half guard.

Carvalho stands up from half guard.

Carvalho feints and as Grizwold raises his hands in defense, Carvalho changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Grizwold trying to keep a closed guard but Carvalho is proving a slippery customer.

Carvalho stands and steps away. Grizwold gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Carvalho thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Grizwold controls Carvalho momentarily but Carvalho frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grizwold misses with a takedown

and Carvalho counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Grizwold is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Grizwold is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carvalho is aware though and is defending well.

Carvalho stands up from Grizwold's guard - Carvalho perhaps looking for a knockout.
Carvalho shoots in looking for a takedown. Grizwold tries to sprawl out of it but Carvalho keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Grizwold manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Carvalho shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Carvalho wants to control but Grizwold is keeping him busy.

Carvalho seems to be looking for submissions.
Carvalho wants to lay and pray for a moment but Grizwold keeps working.
Grizwold blocking the ground and pound attempt from Carvalho.

Carvalho is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Carvalho is trying to work for a kimura but Grizwold is defending well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Carvalho is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Grizwold defends it well.
Grizwold trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Carvalho looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Grizwold tries to get back to half guard but can't.
You get the feeling that Grizwold really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Carvalho looking for a guillotine from mount but Grizwold is having none of it.

Grizwold really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Grizwold holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Carvalho tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Carvalho thowing shots but they're missing.
Carvalho misses with a head shot.

Carvalho jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Grizwold is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Grizwold and Carvalho has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Grizwold is looking to regain half guard here but Carvalho keeps moving and retains side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carvalho wants to control but Grizwold is keeping him busy.
Carvalho in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Carvalho in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Grizwold is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
