Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Okaohose Monuwe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shunsuke Nakamura! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nakamura closes the distance looking to clinch and Monuwe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Nakamura is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Monuwe circles away from the clinch attempt and Monuwe counters with a straight right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nakamura tries to clinch up and Nakamura takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monuwe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nakamura sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Monuwe somewhat. Monuwe fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nakamura avoids it really well and circles away. Nakamura tries to clinch but fails miserably so Monuwe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Nakamura keeping full guard, as Monuwe tries to pass. Nakamura is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nakamura tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nakamura is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Nakamura seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Monuwe tries to free his leg and advance position but Nakamura is retaining full guard. Monuwe drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Nakamura dives on top into guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Monuwe working for a triangle but Nakamura defends it easily.

Monuwe looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Monuwe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Nakamura wants to stand but Monuwe has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Monuwe manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Monuwe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Nakamura has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Nakamura! Nakamura trying to control but Monuwe is working from the bottom. Monuwe is looking for a triangle but Nakamura pushes his legs off easily.

Monuwe has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nakamura is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Monuwe. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Okaohose Monuwe dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Monuwe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nakamura swivels and escapes. Nakamura wants to clinch. Nakamura tries to clinch but Monuwe is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nakamura tries to close the distance and clinch but Monuwe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nakamura tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Monuwe counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monuwe drops back, looking for a kneebar! Nakamura looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Nakamura looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Nakamura! Nakamura wants to control but Monuwe is keeping him busy. Monuwe manages to work his way to half guard, despite Nakamura's best efforts. Monuwe regains full guard. Nicely done. Nakamura is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Nakamura avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Monuwe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Monuwe has an active guard here but Nakamura has managed to pass into half guard.
Monuwe wants to get back to full guard. Nakamura trying to control from half guard but Monuwe is working away. Monuwe looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Monuwe looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nakamura throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Monuwe is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nakamura pulls his head out easily. Nakamura tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Nakamura not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Monuwe is looking to improve his position.
Monuwe is working hard here to advance position. Nakamura is keen to just control but Monuwe is a slippery customer. Nakamura prevents Monuwe from improving his position. Okaohose Monuwe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nakamura tries to stand but can't do so whilst Monuwe controls his leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Okaohose Monuwe dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Nakamura tries to clinch up and Monuwe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Nakamura! Monuwe wants to take his opponent's back but Nakamura doesn't allow it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nakamura can do anything to dispel that myth. Monuwe is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Nakamura has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Monuwe working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Monuwe swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Nakamura is now in Monuwe's guard. A big mistake from Monuwe there, giving up the dominant position!
That's one minute gone in the round. Nakamura is sitting in close to Monuwe's body. Monuwe has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Nakamura is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Nakamura is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Monuwe.
