Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Meisner!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mir closes the distance and clinches.

Mir has picked Meisner up - he's going for a ride! Mir dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Meisner throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Meisner pushes Mir off looking to stand but Mir dives back in and keeps control.
Mir lands strikes from half guard.
Meisner tries to kick Mir off in order to stand up. Mir Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Mir staying calm.
Mir scoring with punches from side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mir stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Mir drives through and clinches with Meisner against the cage.

Mir breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Meisner wants to clinch

and Mir holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Mir turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mir manages to end up in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meisner seems a little lost for a moment, as Mir dominates the positioning.
Mir's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Meisner is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Mir is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Meisner's shoulder. That is not cool.
Meisner is trying to control Mir's posture but Mir avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Frank Mir wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Meisner has his takedown stuffed

and Mir counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Mir engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mir seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Meisner for as long as he can get away with.
Mir has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mir passes into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Meisner trying to control but Mir postures up.
Meisner looks gassed!
Mir frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mir cracks Meisner with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


It looks like James Meisner has been cut.
Mir looking to control and managing it successfully.
Mir with a couple of short strikes.
Mir sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Meisner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mir lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mir content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mir connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Mir working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Mir tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Mir is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Mir extends the arm and Meisner is forced to tap!
