Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mateo Velez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Wren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Wren!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Steve Montenegro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Wren counters with a straight right hand.

It looks like Justin Wren has been cut.

Wren darts in and clinches Velez up against the cage.
Velez throws a head punch that misses.
Velez gets underhooks to prevent Wren's takedown attempt.

Velez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wren misses with a jab, cross combination.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wren tries to work over Velez's front leg with a kick but Velez checks it.

and Wren counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Wren moves to clinch but Velez breaks away
and Velez counters with a left and a right that stings Wren.

Velez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wren.

Velez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Velez moves out of range of the strikes.
Velez scores with a decent looking hook.
Wren is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Velez.
No joy there for Velez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Velez's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Velez duly obliges.
Wren has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Wren tries to clinch up but Velez circles away and keeps his distance.
Wren tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Velez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wren throws a leg kick but Velez sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Wren closes the distance and clinches.
Velez is trying to push Wren away but Wren has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Velez tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Wren lands a takedown into guard.
Wren is looking to work some ground and pound but Velez has wrist control.
Wren in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Velez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wren on the ground.

Velez is controlling Wren's posture.
Wren advances to half guard.
Velez is breathing heavily.

Wren is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Velez has managed to free his arm - good work.
Velez won't allow Wren to pass to mount.
Wren thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Wren wants to work for an arm triangle but Velez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Velez is refusing to be controlled, as Wren sits in half guard.

Wren maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Velez could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Wren has cracked it and Velez is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Wren!
