PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luis Michaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michaels's entrance music is Dead on Arrival by Billy Idol. A fine choice. Eric Shaw struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 207.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michaels tries to bum rush Shaw with a series of wild strikes but Shaw uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Shaw tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Michaels counters with a left and a right that stings Shaw.
Michaels throws a right hand that Shaw ducks under and follows up with a left that Shaw also avoids with ease.

Shaw closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Michaels is letting Shaw control him for a moment.

Michaels parries the strikes from Shaw easily there. Shaw is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Michaels to escape.
Shaw lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shaw sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Michaels is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Shaw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Michaels. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shaw is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Shaw throws a strike but Michaels rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Shaw seems keen to control Michaels's posture.

Shaw fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Michaels sprawls well initially but Shaw persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Michaels pushes Shaw off looking to stand but Shaw dives back in and keeps control.

Shaw looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Shaw is taking a breather. Michaels says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Eric Shaw wasn't active enough on the ground.

Shaw darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Shaw wants to stand but Michaels has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shaw in particular looking to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shaw is breathing heavily.
Michaels wants to get back to his feet.

Eric Shaw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Michaels counters with a crisp one two that drops Shaw! Michaels thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Shaw to his feet! Shaw is in big trouble!

and Michaels counters with a nice right hand that sends Shaw toppling to the canvas! Shaw scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Michaels finish him?!
Shaw is still on wobbly legs! Can Michaels finish him?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shaw shoots for a takedown but Michaels saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Michaels counters with a nice right hand that sends Shaw toppling to the canvas! Shaw scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Michaels finish him?!
Michaels throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Shaw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
OH! Michaels has been rocked by a huge right hand and is in deep trouble! Michaels smells blood and charges in for the finish! Michaels unloads a vicious overhand right and connects to the jaw of Michaels sending him face first to the canvas! Unbelievable!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Luis Michaels!
