Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rodrigo Rodrigues! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robert Bruce! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bruce is looking to chop away at Rodrigues's legs. Rodrigues gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bruce to score an easy takedown into full guard. Rodrigues escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bruce gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Rodrigues can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bruce controls the pace. Bruce looking to sit in guard and control but Rodrigues gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Rodrigues drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bruce looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bruce looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bruce!
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodrigues is letting Bruce control him for a moment. Bruce looking to control but instead Rodrigues has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Bruce seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Rodrigues is staying active underneath Bruce, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Bruce really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rodrigues. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bruce is looking to stall here but Rodrigues recovers full guard. Bruce trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Rodrigues is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Bruce has his hands clasped together but Rodrigues extends an breaks Bruce's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rodrigues.
