PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ren Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Axe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ren Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Axe!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duran shoots in for a takedown but Axe shows good takedown defense.
Axe scores with a sloppy right hand. Duran should have avoided that one.
Duran fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Duran showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Axe.
Axe throws a body punch but Duran moves out of range.
Duran tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Axe was well out of range. Poor timing from Duran.
Sam Axe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Axe jabs at Duran's body.
Duran takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Axe punishes Duran's body with a nice straight punch.
Duran walks into a left hand.
Duran throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Axe throws a hook but Duran blocks it.
Axe scores with a nice strike.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Duran looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Duran tries to free his leg and advance position but Axe is retaining full guard.
Duran is looking to work some ground and pound but Axe has wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duran with a flurry of punches that miss.
Axe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Duran postures up in Axe's guard and throws a big left but Axe blocks it.
Duran missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Axe can do anything to dispel that myth.
Duran trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Duran thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Axe working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Duran.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Axe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Duran is pushing down on Axe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Axe is fighting to maintain full guard but Duran has managed to sneak the leg through.

Duran is trying to work for a kimura but Axe is defending well.
Axe regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Duran.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duran stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Axe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Duran trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Duran tries to free his leg and advance position but Axe is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Duran drops back looking for a leg! Axe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Axe manages to kick Duran off! Duran jumps back into Axe's guard.
Duran trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Axe wants to sweep but no luck.
Duran slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Duran thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Duran is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Axe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Duran is trying to get an arm triangle but Axe is defending well.

Duran is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Axe has escaped the position, nice work there.

Duran tries for a kimura but Axe is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sam Axe will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Duran takes a jab right on the kisser.
Axe works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Axe scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Axe throws a predictable looking body shot

and Duran counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Axe!

Duran has isolated one of Axe's arms. Axe looking to fight him off but Duran twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ren Duran!
