Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Handsoncock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen W32.Mydoom.AU@mm as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Handsoncock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Richard James!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James misses with a takedown attempt
and Handsoncock counters with a lovely straight right hand!

James tries to improve position but can't.
James manages to work his way to half guard, despite Handsoncock's best efforts.
Handsoncock scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
James regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Handsoncock.

Handsoncock throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
James is trying to get back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Handsoncock slips a nice elbow through James's hands, connecting with James's forehead.
James tries to roll over but Handsoncock keeps him under control.
Handsoncock seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

James is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Handsoncock wants to take a breather but James is having none of it.

James is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Handsoncock pulls his head out easily.

Handsoncock tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.

Handsoncock tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and James avoids it.
Handsoncock tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. James smiles and moves away.

James looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
James closes the distance and clinches up with Handsoncock, looking for a takedown. James pushes Handsoncock against the cage but Handsoncock circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
James tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Handsoncock lands a head kick. James smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

John Handsoncock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard James.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and James counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James wants to control from the top but Handsoncock keeps moving.

James closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - James lands in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Handsoncock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Handsoncock has gone for a leg lock! James slips out almost immediately though and dives into Handsoncock's guard.

James sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Handsoncock's guard.

James looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Handsoncock is not content to let James control the position.
Handsoncock pushes James off looking to stand but James dives back in and keeps control.
James trying to control the action but Handsoncock is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



James throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Handsoncock was covering up waiting for the punch and James finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Handsoncock is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
James presses Handsoncock against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
James gets underhooks to prevent Handsoncock's takedown attempt.

James jumps guard and drags Handsoncock to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Handsoncock throws a strike but James rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

James stays in close to Handsoncock's body and controls the position.

James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Handsoncock but Handsoncock pushes him off and we're back to square one.

James connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Handsoncock's hands.
John Handsoncock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

James fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
James shoots in looking for a takedown but Handsoncock manages to keep the fight standing, pushing James's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and James makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Handsoncock is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but James is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Richard James has got the better of the ground game so far.

James is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Handsoncock's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
James wants to control but Handsoncock is keeping busy.
James wants to improve his position but Handsoncock is controlling well.

Handsoncock is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so James is just riding it out for now. Handsoncock eventually gives up the hold.
Handsoncock throws a strike but James avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Handsoncock can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Handsoncock postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! James is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Handsoncock, into his guard.

James drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Handsoncock manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now James has Handsoncock in his guard.

James is looking for a triangle but Handsoncock pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Richard James.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
