Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Milan Lucic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Severn! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Severn looks to land a combination but Lucic avoids it well. Severn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Severn decides to stand and escape the position. Severn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Severn decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Lucic throws a leg kick which misses Severn's front leg but catches the back leg as Severn tries to avoid it. Severn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lucic quickly recovers to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This has been an exciting period of action! Severn stands up and beckons Lucic to join him on the feet. Lucic has his takedown stuffed and Severn counters with a single leg into guard. Lucic didn't expect that. Severn cracks Lucic with a solid left hand. Lucic looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Severn stands and steps away. Lucic gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Lucic gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Severn counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Severn is nestled in close to Lucic, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Lucic is breathing heavily. Severn stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Severn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Severn gets to his feet - back to striking we go! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Severn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Severn controlling his opponent. Severn's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dan Severn. Severn drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lucic is working an open guard so Severn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Excellent takedown into side control there by Severn. Severn working the body and head with strikes. Severn landing strikes. Lucic is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Severn stands up and we're back to a striking position. Severn scores with a takedown into Lucic's guard. Severn advances to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Severn postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Lucic to stand up. Lucic with a lazy takedown attempt and Severn counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Severn. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Milan Lucic. That's going to take a lot out of him. Severn sitting in guard here, content to control. Severn chips away with some ground and pound. Severn showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Severn is in close to Lucic's body, working some short punches and elbows. Severn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lucic was covering up waiting for the punch and Severn finishes the takedown easily into guard. Lucic is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Severn stands and steps away. Lucic gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Severn has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Severn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lucic was covering up waiting for the punch and Severn finishes the takedown easily into guard. Lucic knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Severn on the ground. Severn gets to his feet - Lucic follows without any prompting. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Severn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lucic did well to prevent Severn getting side control. Severn escapes and gets back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Severn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lucic sprawls well initially but Severn persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Severn decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Severn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Severn stands up from Lucic's guard - Severn perhaps looking for a knockout. Severn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lucic manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Severn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lucic, up you get! Severn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Severn lands in his opponent's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! That's two minutes gone in the round. Lucic explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Severn looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Lucic shoots and misses and Severn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Severn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lucic with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Severn looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Dan Severn has got the better of the ground game so far. Severn stands up from half guard. Lucic misses with a takedown and Severn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Ground and pound from Severn. Severn with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Severn decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Lucic enables Severn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lucic manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Severn stands up from Lucic's guard - Severn perhaps looking for a knockout. Crunch! Lucic slams his shin into Severn's torso. Severn looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Severn looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Lucic! Severn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Severn prevents Lucic from getting the reversal.

Severn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lucic quickly recovers to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Severn content to control rather than advance.
