PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew McPain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dat Sik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McPain comes into the arena with Killing in the Name blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matthew McPain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Dat Sik!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McPain takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
McPain missing with a left hand there. Sik was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sik misses the body punch
and McPain counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sik tries to clinch there but McPain circles away.
Sik misses with a double jab
and McPain connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A slow jab from Sik misses its intended target.
McPain misses with a straight left.

Sik scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sik is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
McPain has his hands clasped together around Sik's back. He's all about the action.

Dat Sik has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Sik has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. McPain avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Sik throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but McPain blocks it with crossed arms.

Sik tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Sik swings wildly with an uppercut but McPain uses good head movement to avoid it.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
McPain misses with a short punch on the inside.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Sik.
McPain takes a shot to the head.

McPain tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Sik is trying to drag McPain to the mat but McPain just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Sik drops down looking for an ankle pick but McPain pulls his leg out and moves away.

Sik shoots in and bounces McPain off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
McPain looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sik is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McPain keeping moving, preventing Sik from controlling successfully.

Sik slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Dat Sik has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

That was a close round but I would say that Matthew McPain will probably get the nod.

McPain throws a good cross that connects.

Sik swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McPain counters with a stiff right hand.
McPain takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
McPain keeps the fight on the outside.
Sik tries to score a power double leg takedown but McPain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sik somewhat.

McPain works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
McPain cracks a nice hook into Sik's ribs.
McPain works the jab nicely.
Sik is breathing heavily.
McPain tests Sik's chin there with a solid looking shot.


Sik is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McPain throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Sik is still on wobbly legs! Can McPain finish him?

Sik closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
McPain scores with a hook to the body. Sik takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Sik stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from McPain.
Sik seems to have recovered his senses.
McPain lands with a shot to the body.
McPain fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
McPain lands a jab to Sik's midsection.
McPain lands with an uppercut that bounces Sik off the cage and back into rage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McPain connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

A nice leg kick lands there from McPain.
McPain bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Sik's head backwards.
McPain is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Sik throws a left and a right that both miss
letting McPain counter with a right hand.
McPain swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sik.

McPain lands a jab to Sik's midsection.
McPain darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
McPain looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
McPain scores with a nice body kick.

A punch lands to the side of Sik 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Sik tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

McPain will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

McPain scores with a sloppy right hand. Sik should have avoided that one.

McPain feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sik's calf.
Dat Sik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McPain connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sik's hands.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Sik. McPain shrugs it off though.

Sik looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McPain is fending him off so far but Sik persists. Nope, McPain circles away and we're back to standing.

Sik takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and McPain counters with a nice uppercut.

McPain throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Sik drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
McPain lands an overhand right.
McPain scores with a jab to the head.
Sik misses the body punch
and McPain counters with a stiff right hand.

Sik has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
McPain dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

McPain punishes Sik's body with a nice straight punch.
Sik walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
McPain throws a low kick but Sik moves out of range easily.
Sik misses with a hook to the body
and McPain counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Sik blocks a low kick nicely.
McPain scores with a hook to the body. Sik takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Good exchange - McPain coming out on top.
Sik doesn't manage to clinch there - McPain circles away.
McPain leaves Sik with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sik takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
McPain scores with a jab to the jaw.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sik's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

McPain connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Sik has his takedown stuffed
and McPain cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Sik takes one to the chin there.
McPain looks to throw the jab but Sik is out of range.
McPain throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
McPain lands the left hand.

and McPain counters with a three punch combo that has Sik backing up. Sik nods at McPain to acknowledge the strikes.

McPain swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sik.

Sik tries to move into range but McPain moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Sik doesn't succeed with the takedown
and McPain counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Sik thinking.
McPain tries to score with a low kick but Sik moves his leg out of the way.
Sik shoots in looking for a takedown but McPain manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sik's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
McPain is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sik can do to turn this around?

McPain moves into range and connects with a jab.
McPain scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sik throws an off balance right hand
and Sik takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dat Sik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McPain, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
