Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maks Smirnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Turchin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Maks Smirnov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Turchin!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turchin throws a combination that misses
and Smirnov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Turchin moves into range and clinches up with Smirnov.

Turchin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Turchin feints and as Smirnov raises his hands in defense, Turchin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Turchin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Smirnov wants to stand but Turchin is controlling the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Let's hope that Turchin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smirnov controls Turchin momentarily but Turchin frees himself.
Turchin's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ivan Turchin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Smirnov misses with a takedown

and Turchin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smirnov's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Turchin stands up from Smirnov's guard - Turchin perhaps looking for a knockout.

Turchin has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Smirnov regains guard immediately.

Turchin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Turchin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Turchin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Turchin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Smirnov misses with a takedown

and Turchin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Smirnov managing to block the knees to the body from Turchin.
Turchin is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Smirnov is defending well for now.

Turchin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Smirnov pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Smirnov is trying to push Turchin away but Turchin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Smirnov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Turchin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Smirnov is trying to defend but Turchin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Smirnov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Turchin on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Smirnov pushes Turchin away with a front kick.
Smirnov lands a slapping body shot.

Smirnov fails to land the takedown.
Smirnov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Turchin's waist but Turchin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smirnov off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maks Smirnov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smirnov shoots for a double leg takedown but Turchin sprawls well. He's pushed Smirnov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Smirnov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Smirnov swings around for an armbar but Turchin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Smirnov's guard.

Turchin drops back looking for a leg! Smirnov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smirnov manages to kick Turchin off! Turchin jumps back into Smirnov's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Maks Smirnov will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Turchin stands up and beckons Smirnov to join him on the feet.

and Turchin counters with a single leg into guard. Smirnov didn't expect that.

Smirnov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Turchin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

I think Turchin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
