PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Six Shooter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ignatius J (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shooter kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is DJ Antoine - Ma Cherie. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Ignatius J enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Six Shooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ignatius J!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shooter swings and misses with a shot to the body
letting J counter with a right hand.


It looks like Six Shooter has been cut.
J throws a poor cross that misses
and J takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
J throws a jab but it's blocked by Shooter.
Shooter swings for the body but J moves out of range.
J is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
J lands a lovely overhand right.
Shooter listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shooter throws an ugly left hook that misses

and J counters with a shoot takedown. Shooter fights it but they end up in guard.
Shooter has momentary wrist control but J slips an elbow through the middle.
Shooter is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
J preventing the sweep.
Shooter is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Shooter throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! J escapes and throws Shooter's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Shooter is trying to improve his position.
Shooter is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
J wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shooter keeps working.
J with the ground and pound but Shooter regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

J looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
J is looking to pass Shooter's guard but actually Shooter recovers to full guard.
J wants to control from the top but Shooter keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shooter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shooter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
J trying to hold on to Shooter's head to control him but Shooter postures up.

Shooter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
J controlling the position well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
J has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shooter is working away from the top position though.
Shooter tries to pass to full mount but J defends it.

Shooter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so J is just riding it out for now. Shooter eventually gives up the hold.
J tries to get to full guard but Shooter has control of the leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Shooter wants to pass the guard but J is defending well.
J moves into full guard.
J wants to sweep here but Shooter controlling him for the moment.
Shooter advances to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
J is looking to improve his position.
J avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shooter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ignatius J dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Six Shooter's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shooter shoots and misses
and J makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and J counters with a shoot takedown. Shooter fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
J pushing down on Shooter's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
J is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Shooter reverses the position - he's now on top in J's guard.

J escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shooter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
J looking to control but Shooter passes into half guard.
J is not content to let Shooter control the position.

Shooter seems to be looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shooter wants to pass the guard but J is defending well.
J is trying to maintain the position but Shooter is very close to passing his half guard.

Shooter is trying to work for a kimura but J is defending well.
J is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
J is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shooter controlling the pace.
J is looking to control Shooter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can J avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
J is staying active underneath Shooter, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
J is trying to get back to full guard.
J is refusing to be controlled, as Shooter sits in half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Shooter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with J but J pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Six Shooter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shooter throws a hook to the side of J's head but J sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Good exchange - Shooter coming out on top.
Shooter misses with a body punch

and J counters with a takedown into side control.

J is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shooter is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shooter can't do much from the bottom here.
J wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shooter keeps working.
Shooter tries to bench press J off him but J keeps the position.
J tries to move to mount but Shooter blocks the move with his legs.
Ignatius J has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shooter manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

J is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Shooter sees it coming and defends easily.
J throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Shooter is looking for a sweep. J is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
J tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shooter knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Shooter keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are battling for position here. Shooter manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Shooter looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Shooter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but J can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
J lands a couple of elbows.

J got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shooter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, J has managed to get both his arms back between Shooter's legs - danger averted.
J trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Shooter manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Shooter moves to the back.
J is in bad spot here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ignatius J showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Six Shooter's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Shooter looks to land a left hand but J moved out of range nicely.
Shooter avoids the body shot from J.
J uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Shooter.
Shooter is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
J misses with a body punch
and Shooter counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps J thinking.
J takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

J looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Shooter manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Shooter looking to control but J is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

J tries to improve his position but Shooter has taken his back! Shooter has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will J tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Shooter pushes J away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Six Shooter!
