Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugh Jackman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hugh Jackman!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Jackman counter with a right hand.
Shields misses with a combination
and Jackman counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shields falls off balance throwing a combination

Jackman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Hugh Jackman wasn't active enough on the ground.
Shields misses with a combination

and Jackman counters by moving into the clinch.

Jackman has clasped his hands together around Shields's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

The ground and pound from Jackman seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

It looks like Jackman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Hugh Jackman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Shields throws a combination that misses

and Jackman counters with a single leg into guard. Shields didn't expect that.
Shields utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jackman wants to pass the guard but Shields is keeping the position.
Jackman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Hugh Jackman.

Jackman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here as Jackman stalls from top position.
Jackman throws a strike aimed at the side of Shields's head but Shields avoids it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The ground and pound from Jackman seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Shields is trying to escape the position but Jackman is controlling the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Hugh Jackman wasn't active enough on the ground.

Jackman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jackman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shields takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Jake Shields seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shields gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jackman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shields swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hugh Jackman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jackman controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jackman cracks Shields with a right hand to the side of the head.

Jackman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shields's guard.
Jackman stays in close to Shields's body and controls the position.

Jackman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hugh Jackman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

and Jackman counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jackman wants to pass the guard but Shields is defending well.

Jackman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Shields!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shields blocking the ground and pound.
Jackman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jackman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jake Shields has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jackman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Shields can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Shields wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Jackman.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hugh Jackman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hugh Jackman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jackman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
