PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jose Luis Cantero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie Carlton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cantero comes into the arena with La mandanga blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Luis Cantero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ronnie Carlton!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlton misses with a body shot.
Carlton misses with a lunging right hand
and Cantero counters with a nice uppercut.
Cantero shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Carlton misses with an uppercut

so Cantero counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cantero lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carlton has his foot on Cantero's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cantero works his way back into a safe position though.

Cantero got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carlton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cantero has managed to get both his arms back between Carlton's legs - danger averted.
Carlton looking for a sweep. Not yet Carlton, not yet.
Carlton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cantero's guard.
Carlton wants to pass the guard but Cantero is keeping the position.

Carlton decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cantero with a poor takedown
and Carlton counters with a nice uppercut.

Carlton jabs Cantero to the body, keeping him at a distance.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Luis Cantero. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carlton misses with a body shot
and Cantero counters with a nice leg kick.
Carlton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Cantero counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carlton won't be happy with that.
Carlton is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Cantero is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carlton can't escape the position.
Cantero looking to control but Carlton is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Carlton is desperately trying to improve his position but Cantero has a good base and remains in mount.

Cantero is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Carlton is surviving well by controlling Cantero's body position as best he can.
Cantero with shots to the head and body - Carlton looks very uncomfortable down there.

Cantero looking to control but Carlton is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Cantero sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Carlton is wriggling around trying to escape.
Carlton is squirming around, avoiding Cantero's attempts to control the action.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carlton sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
It looks like Cantero is going to stand back up.
Cantero not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Carlton wants to improve his position but Cantero is controlling well.
Carlton is concentrating on defense, preventing Cantero from advancing position.
Cantero lands with a punch from half guard.
Carlton wants to get back to full guard.
Carlton wants to get back to full guard but Cantero has passed into side control.
Carlton is trying to control Cantero's posture but Cantero avoids it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carlton is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Cantero is staying active.
Carlton is looking for a sweep.
Cantero lands some shots froms side control.

Cantero looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Carlton tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Carlton is trying to control Cantero's posture but Cantero avoids it.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Carlton takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Carlton manages to get back to half guard.

Cantero wants to work for an arm triangle but Carlton is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cantero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cantero wants to take a breather but Carlton is having none of it.

Carlton is not content to let Cantero control the position.

Cantero is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carlton doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cantero.
Cantero is thwarting Carlton's attempts to control the position.
Cantero moves into full mount! Carlton won't be happy about that!

Cantero putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Cantero avoids the attempt from Carlton to control.
Carlton tries to improve his position but instead Cantero has taken his back!
Carlton trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Cantero has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Carlton is in real trouble here. Cantero gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Carlton is tapping out! Cantero wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jose Luis Cantero!
