PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roque Barretto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenshi Zuko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Barretto might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Last Man Standing - By 4ft Fingers. Zuko comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Writ kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Kenshi Zuko told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kenshi Zuko!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barretto throws a quick inside leg kick.
Barretto misses with a lunging right hand
and Zuko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Zuko tries a low kick but Barretto avoids it.
Barretto throws a poor cross that misses
and Zuko counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Zuko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barretto is fending him off so far but Zuko persists. Nope, Barretto circles away and we're back to standing.
A slapping leg kick lands for Barretto.
Barretto lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Zuko shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barretto but Barretto pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Zuko steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Barretto. That one must have hurt.
Barretto lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Zuko throws a lazy right hand but Barretto sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Barretto takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

The fighters circle momentarily. Barretto darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Zuko lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Barretto at a distance.
Zuko swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Barretto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Barretto throws a jab when Zuko was well out of range.
Zuko misses the shot to the body.
Zuko misses with a takedown attempt
and Barretto counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Roque Barretto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenshi Zuko.
Zuko stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Barretto.
Zuko is trying desperately to land a takedown but Barretto is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Zuko.
Zuko takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Zuko sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Barretto feints and then cracks Zuko's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Zuko down.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Zuko might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Barretto has got the better of the exchanges.

Barretto throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Zuko walks forward, straight into a front kick from Barretto.
Barretto throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Zuko has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
