PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between steven sarai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Ringseal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ringseal has chosen "Man in the box" as his entrance music. steven sarai had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 172.8lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Alan Ringseal acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, steven sarai !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alan Ringseal!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ringseal closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
sarai tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ringseal just stands there and leans against the cage.
sarai jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ringseal walks away with a smile on his face. sarai gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
sarai misses with a takedown

and Ringseal counters with a single leg into guard. sarai didn't expect that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for steven sarai . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ringseal wants to pass the guard but sarai is keeping the position.

sarai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
sarai tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ringseal tries to free his leg and advance position but sarai is retaining full guard.
sarai wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Ringseal is now in half guard.
Ringseal is trying to control the action in half guard but sarai is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
sarai makes his way to full guard. A much better position for sarai .

sarai looking for a guillotine here but Ringseal defends easily.
Ringseal throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as sarai works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

sarai is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
sarai wants to sweep here but Ringseal controlling him for the moment.
Ringseal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with sarai . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
sarai is breathing heavily.
Ringseal postures up in sarai 's guard and throws a big left but sarai blocks it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ringseal accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ringseal is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ringseal trying to control the position from guard on top but sarai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Alan Ringseal has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
sarai with a poor takedown

and Ringseal counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Ringseal perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Ringseal is nestled in close to sarai , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ringseal wants to get back to his feet.
Ringseal looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks sarai with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ringseal wants to take a breather but sarai is having none of it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ringseal in particular looking to stall.

sarai is staying active underneath Ringseal, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ringseal scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ringseal lands a nice short elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ringseal connects with a nice short shot to sarai 's temple.
sarai is not content to let Ringseal control the position.
Ringseal seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

sarai is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ringseal pulls his head out easily.
Ringseal wants to stand but sarai has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Ringseal stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows sarai to get to his feet.

sarai tries to keep at a distance but Ringseal has taken the fight into the clinch.

Ringseal manages to break the clinch.

sarai misses with a takedown

and Ringseal counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ringseal.
sarai wants to sweep but no luck.
Ringseal throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ringseal throws a big right hand that misses.

sarai working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ringseal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ringseal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ringseal feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

sarai looking for a guillotine here but Ringseal defends easily.
Ringseal's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ringseal is pushing down on sarai 's leg trying to pass to half guard. sarai is fighting to maintain full guard but Ringseal has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ringseal is keen to just control but sarai is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
sarai is looking to improve his position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ringseal lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ringseal is looking to advance position but sarai won't allow it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

sarai wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ringseal keeps working.
Ringseal is positioning himself well to prevent sarai advancing to mount.

sarai seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ringseal does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ringseal is trying to maintain the position but sarai is very close to passing his half guard.
Ringseal looks like he's trying to stand up.

sarai loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Alan Ringseal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Ringseal stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Ringseal shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ringseal wants to control but sarai is keeping him busy.
Ringseal wants to stand but sarai has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Ringseal content to control rather than advance.
sarai tries to get to full guard but Ringseal has control of the leg.
sarai slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Ringseal trying to control the position from guard on top but sarai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alan Ringseal wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ringseal fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt sarai .
Ringseal misses with a two punch combination.

Ringseal shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches sarai napping and manages to drive through into side control!
sarai is trying to get back to half guard.
sarai can't do much from the bottom here.

Ringseal stands up and beckons sarai to his feet.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ringseal.

and Ringseal counters with a left and a right that stings sarai .
sarai shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ringseal counters with a one-two to the body.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ringseal, right into the meat.

Ringseal drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ringseal wants to stand and escape but instead sarai has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

sarai postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ringseal is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of sarai , into his guard.
Ringseal postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

sarai keeping moving, preventing Ringseal from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ringseal accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ringseal got a little sloppy there for a moment and sarai has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ringseal has managed to get both his arms back between sarai 's legs - danger averted.

Ringseal wants to control from the top but sarai keeps moving.

sarai has his foot on Ringseal's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ringseal works his way back into a safe position though.
Ringseal chips away with some ground and pound.
Ringseal must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well Ringseal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
