Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jordy Velazquez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Velazquez is trying to get back to full guard.

Velazquez looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russell is just content to waste time from the top position. Velazquez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Russell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Russell wants to control from the top but Velazquez keeps moving.

Russell sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Velazquez looking for a guillotine here but Russell defends easily.
Russell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Velazquez is keeping the position for now.

Russell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Velazquez misses with a takedown

and Russell counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Velazquez!
Velazquez working to try and regain half guard.
Russell forces the positional change into back control.
Velazquez looks gassed!
Russell has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Velazquez's body.
I really don't envy Velazquez right now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Russell is not going to allow Velazquez to sit and survive in this position.
Russell punishes Velazquez with strikes from the back mount.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Russell controlling the positon.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Russell has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Velazquez has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Russell is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Russell's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Russell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Velazquez was covering up waiting for the punch and Russell finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Velazquez working for a triangle but Russell defends it easily.
Velazquez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Russell slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Velazquez is breathing heavily.

Russell stands and steps away. Velazquez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Russell closes the distance and clinches.

Russell breaks the clinch.

Russell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Russell content just to control the position here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Russell connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Russell with shots to the head and body - Velazquez looks very uncomfortable down there.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Russell stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Velazquez circles away from the clinch attempt.

Russell shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Velazquez napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Russell has an Americana. Velazquez didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Russell is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Russell hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Bill Russell!
