Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Markakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Horvat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Markakis has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Markakis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ivan Horvat!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Markakis.
The fight stays on the outside here - Markakis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Markakis scores with a one two! Horvat had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Markakis is breathing heavily.
Horvat fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Markakis throws a solid leg kick but Horvat takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Markakis.
Markakis looks to land a combination but Horvat avoids it well.
Markakis shoots in but no luck this time.

Markakis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Horvat is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Horvat passes into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Markakis is trying to stand up here but Horvat is controlling him well.
Horvat trying to pass the guard but Markakis defending well.
Markakis looks like he's trying to stand up.
Markakis won't allow Horvat to pass to mount.
Horvat stalling away here and it's allowed Markakis to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Horvat postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Horvat shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Horvat showed some decent athleticism there.
Horvat seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Horvat is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Markakis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Horvat.
Markakis looks like he's trying to stand up.
Markakis lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Horvat lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Horvat works his foot free and advances to mount.
Markakis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Horvat on the ground.
Horvat is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Markakis can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Horvat has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Markakis's face.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Markakis is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Horvat wants to take Markakis's back here but Markakis is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Markakis is looking to improve his position but Horvat isn't that keen on the idea.
Markakis is working hard here to advance position.
Markakis takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Horvat tries to control but Markakis wriggling away.

Markakis tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Markakis's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Markakis is in a horrible position here. Horvat smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Markakis is desperately trying to improve his position but Horvat has a good base and remains in mount.
Horvat fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Horvat is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Markakis is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Markakis flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Horvat anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Markakis and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Horvat slips an arm under Markakis chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Horvat has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Horvat is squeezing on Markakis like an anaconda would it's prey. Markakis fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ivan Horvat!
