PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vash Gregovich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gregovich comes into the arena with The Blitzkrieg Bop blaring out of the sound system. Hansen has chosen Wings of a Butterfly as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vash Gregovich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Hansen! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hansen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gregovich's waist but Gregovich gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hansen off to one side. Gregovich will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gregovich stuffs the takedown. Gregovich shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gregovich was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Hansen is squirming around, avoiding Gregovich's attempts to control the action. Hansen really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Hansen tries to improve his position but instead Gregovich has taken his back! Hansen is really stuck here.
A lull in the action here.
Hansen rolls, trying to escape but Gregovich keeps control of the position.
Good control from Gregovich. Hansen manages to reverse the position and now he's in Gregovich's guard. Nice work there by Hansen.
Hansen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gregovich looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gregovich looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gregovich! Hansen is not content to let Gregovich control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hansen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gregovich wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Gregovich trying to control the action but Hansen is working from the bottom. Hansen is trying to improve his position. Gregovich has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. A jab from Gregovich finds it's way through Hansen's defenses. Vash Gregovich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gregovich looks to score with a jab to the body but Hansen is just out of range. Hansen with a lazy takedown attempt and Gregovich counters with a single leg into guard. Hansen didn't expect that. Vash Gregovich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Hansen. Hansen looks gassed! Hansen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gregovich can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hansen is on top in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Gregovich is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hansen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gregovich manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hansen has Gregovich in his guard. Gregovich wants to stand but Hansen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hansen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hansen has a closed guard, preventing Gregovich from standing up. Hansen throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gregovich escapes and throws Hansen's legs to the side, diving into side control! Gregovich wants to control but Hansen is keeping him busy. Hansen is looking to regain half guard here but Gregovich keeps moving and retains side control. Gregovich wants to stand but Hansen is controlling his arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hansen sneaks back into half guard. Hansen looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hansen is pressing down on Gregovich's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Hansen manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hansen is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Gregovich is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Gregovich flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Hansen anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Gregovich and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Hansen slips an arm under Gregovich chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Hansen has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Hansen is squeezing on Gregovich like an anaconda would it's prey. Gregovich fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Marcus Hansen!
