PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Steptoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koichi Takada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takada has chosen Dead Man Walking as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Koichi Takada will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Steptoe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Koichi Takada!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takada fails to land the takedown.
Takada lands with a thumping leg kick.
Takada misses with a takedown attempt - Steptoe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Steptoe tries for a takedown but Takada sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Steptoe checks a low kick from Takada.
Steptoe dodges the punch combination from Takada.
Horrible takedown by Steptoe or perhaps it was just good defense by Takada which made him look bad.
Koichi Takada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Takada rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Steptoe moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Takada does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Steptoe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Steptoe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Steptoe keeps the fight on the outside.
Takada fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Takada displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Takada throws a nice looking combination but Steptoe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steptoe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Steptoe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Takada wants to try and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Steptoe looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Steptoe has hold of Takada's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Takada manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Steptoe is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Takada is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Steptoe!
