PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Battling Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vince Noir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence. Noir is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Dance Hall Days. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Battling Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vince Noir!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noir misses with a combination
enabling Bob to counter with a crisp jab.
Bob on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Vince Noir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Noir tries to bum rush Bob with a series of wild strikes but Bob uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bob shoots in but no luck this time.
Noir defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bob.
Bob tries to score a power double leg takedown but Noir sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bob somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Battling Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Noir tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bob tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Noir counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Bob thinking.
Bob misses with a takedown attempt - Noir sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Noir throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Bob.


It looks like Battling Bob has been cut.
Noir misses with a low kick.
Noir dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

and Bob counters with a shoot takedown. Noir fights it but they end up in guard.

Noir pulls Bob in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Vince Noir was stalling too much, according to the referee.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Noir wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Bob.
Noir is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Bob wants to control the pace but Noir is squirming around nicely.

Bob throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Noir wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Bob.
Bob avoids the attempt from Noir to control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like Vince Noir has been cut.
Bob thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A nice elbow there by Bob.
Bob takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Bob goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Noir turns into him and now he's in Bob's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A looping hook to the body misses from Noir. Bob does a little dance to reset his feet.
Noir looks for the body kick but Bob saw that one coming.
Bob gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Noir turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

and Bob counters with a single leg into guard. Noir didn't expect that.

Bob throws a strike but Noir rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Battling Bob just wasn't active enough.
Noir goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A bone on bone clash there as Bob blocks the leg kick.

and Noir counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Noir is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Noir rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bob moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bob tries for a takedown but Noir sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Noir feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Bobs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
A jab from Noir does it's job there.
Bob on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Noir throws a body kick that misses.

Bob moves into the clinch.
Noir works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Noir gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bob.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Battling Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Noir lands a shoulder strike.

Noir misses with a hook to the ribs.
Noir has a couple of punches blocked by Bob.
A right handed body shot lands from Noir.
Bob drops down looking for an ankle pick but Noir pulls his leg out and moves away.
Noir connects with the punch.
Bob ducks right into an uppercut from Noir.
Bob shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Noir but Noir pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Bob counters with a nice double leg into side control. Noir won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Noir takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Noir is trying to control Bob's posture but Bob avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Battling Bob will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Noir misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bob tries to close the distance and clinch but Noir swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bob throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Noir's waist but Noir gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bob off to one side.
Bob takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Noir feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Bobs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Bob shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Noir pinned against the cage. Noir gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Noir swings for the body but Bob moves out of range.

and Noir counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Battling Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Bob counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bob.

Noir manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bob scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Bob has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bob seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Battling Bob.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bob, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
