Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Martelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Sassaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sassaki has chosen forever as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Sassaki! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sassaki shoots for a double leg takedown but Martelli sprawls well. He's pushed Sassaki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Sassaki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sassaki lands in his opponent's guard. Martelli is trying to keep Sassaki in close.
Martelli wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martelli not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gabriel Martelli wasn't doing enough on the ground. Sassaki fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Martelli closes the distance and clinches. Sassaki pulls guard effortlessly. Sassaki has Martelli pulled in close to control his posture. Martelli tries to free his leg and advance position but Sassaki is retaining full guard. Martelli drops back looking for a leg! Sassaki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sassaki manages to kick Martelli off! Martelli jumps back into Sassaki's guard. Martelli is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Martelli could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martelli wants to control from the top but Sassaki keeps moving. Sassaki lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Martelli! Sassaki landing strikes, looking to finish! Martelli tries to lock up and control but Sassaki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sassaki controlling his opponent. The referee warns Martelli that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Sassaki looking to control and managing it successfully. Sassaki looking for a guillotine from mount but Martelli is having none of it. Rafael Sassaki dominated that round. That's time! Martelli's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Sassaki misses with a takedown attempt and Martelli counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Martelli postures up.
Martelli wants to stand but Sassaki is controlling his posture from full guard. Sassaki working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Martelli. Martelli throws a strike but Sassaki rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Martelli looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Sassaki decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Martelli, up you get! Sassaki is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martelli fails with the takedown so Sassaki counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Sassaki trying to control but Martelli is working from the bottom. Sassaki postures up.
Martelli lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sassaki! Sassaki tries to hold on but Martelli postures up. Martelli sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sassaki is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Sassaki really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Martelli connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Martelli is in the full mount, landing strikes. Martelli controlling his opponent. Martelli goes for an armbar but Sassaki turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sassaki. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sassaki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Martelli is pulling down on Sassaki's head to control his posture. Martelli is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sassaki is controlling him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Sassaki controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sassaki has a takedown stuffed. Martelli drives through and clinches with Sassaki against the cage.
Martelli breaks the clinch.
A head kick by Martelli misses and Sassaki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Martelli won't be happy with that. Martelli wants to control but Sassaki postures up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Martelli is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. You can see the frustration on Martelli's face as Sassaki controls the position. Sassaki's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rafael Sassaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Martelli gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Sassaki counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Martelli stalling in the clinch but Sassaki improves position. Martelli fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Sassaki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sassaki looks for a takedown but Martelli sprawls well. Martelli misses with a takedown and Sassaki counters with a takedown into side control. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gabriel Martelli. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sassaki controls the position. Martelli is looking for a sweep. Sassaki taking a breather here. Sassaki is trying to get an arm triangle but Martelli is defending well. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martelli dodges the ground and pound from Sassaki. Martelli tries to control but Sassaki manages to take his back. Good control from Sassaki. Martelli is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. No luck with that takedown attempt from Martelli. Sassaki moves into the clinch successfully.
Sassaki ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sassaki no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Martelli is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Sassaki is trying to control the position but Martelli postures up. Martelli trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Sassaki thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Martelli drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Martelli jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Sassaki working a defensive guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martelli wants to pass the guard but Sassaki is keeping the position. Rafael Sassaki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Martelli prevents Sassaki from getting back to his feet. Martelli trying to control but Sassaki is working from the bottom. Sassaki looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martelli is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Sassaki tries to clinch up and Martelli counters with a flying knee. Nice. Sassaki gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Sassaki dodges an elbow strike from Martelli.
Sassaki working hard to break the clinch. Martelli drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sassaki pulls his leg out and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight! Rafael Sassaki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Sassaki winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
