The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vera gets the takedown into side control.
Cruzeiro manages to get back to half guard.
Cruzeiro tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Cruzeiro has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Vera is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Cruzeiro manages to get to full guard.

Vera got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cruzeiro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vera has managed to get both his arms back between Cruzeiro's legs - danger averted.
Vera wants to get up but he can't break Cruzeiro's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
