The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton fails with an attempt to clinch.
Boon Boon with a lazy takedown attempt
and Newton counters with a one-two to the body.
Newton misses with a straight right.
Newton tries to close the distance and clinch but Boon Boon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Boon Boon shoots for a double leg takedown but Newton sprawls well. He's pushed Boon Boon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Boon Boon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Newton has escaped the position, nice work there.
Newton tries to buck Boon Boon off but Boon Boon is having none of it.

Boon Boon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Newton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Boon Boon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Newton has escaped the position, nice work there.
Newton gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Newton is defending against the submission attempts here by Boon Boon.

Boon Boon is working for a submission of some sort.
Newton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Boon Boon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Boon Boon's back!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boon Boon is trying to break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boon Boon tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Newton trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Newton avoids the attempt from Boon Boon to control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boon Boon is looking to get to half guard.

Newton has control of Boon Boon's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Boon Boon regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Boon Boon can't escape the position.

Newton is working for a guillotine from mount but Boon Boon frees his head quite easily.

Newton has hold of Boon Boon's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Boon Boon manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Boon Boon tries to lock up and control but Newton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Newton goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Boon Boon is on top in guard.

Boon Boon is sitting in close to Newton's body. Newton has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Boon Boon is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Boon Boon is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Newton.
