PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aiden Drogba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hogan comes to the cage accompanied by The Faint - The Geeks Were Right. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aiden Drogba!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hogan connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Drogba momentarily.
Drogba moves in looking to clinch but Hogan pushes him off.
Drogba tries to clinch but Hogan is having none of it.
Drogba misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hogan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hogan doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Drogba counters with a shoot takedown. Hogan fights it but they end up in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Drogba's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Drogba wants to pass the guard but Hogan is keeping the position.

Drogba stands up from Hogan's guard - Drogba perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hogan instigates a clinch.

Hogan is trying to drag Drogba to the mat but Drogba just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hogan wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Drogba lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

It looks like Drogba might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Drogba wants to stand up but Hogan is controlling the position.

Drogba thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hogan's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Drogba is trying to control. Hogan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Aiden Drogba.
Hogan throws a right and a left that Drogba avoids nicely.

Hogan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Drogba counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hogan!

Drogba avoids the attempt from Hogan to control.
Drogba takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

BOOM! Drogba connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Hogan tries to hold on but Drogba postures up.
Hogan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Drogba looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Drogba throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Hogan because Drogba loaded up on that one.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drogba controlling the pace for now.

Hogan can't escape the position.
Drogba trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Drogba has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hogan's face.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hogan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Drogba thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Drogba is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hogan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hogan shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aiden Drogba was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Drogba doesn't manage to clinch there - Hogan circles away.

Drogba shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hogan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Drogba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hogan controls Drogba momentarily but Drogba frees himself.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Aiden Drogba showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Drogba is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Hogan still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Hogan has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Drogba can do anything to dispel that myth.
Drogba takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hogan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Drogba sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Drogba is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Drogba frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Drogba lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Paul Hogan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee warns Hogan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Drogba stands up from mount. Strange move.
Drogba moves in looking to clinch but Hogan pushes him off.

Hogan has closed the distance and engaged Drogba in a clinch.
Hogan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Drogba is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Drogba unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Drogba breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Drogba tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hogan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Aiden Drogba is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Drogba clinches up with Hogan and pushes him back against the cage.
Drogba gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hogan.

Hogan drags the fight down to the ground.

Aiden Drogba comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Drogba winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
