Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark van Bommel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taisto Kurmotus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). van Bommel comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica-Battery . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark van Bommel!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Taisto Kurmotus!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Konstantin Menshow and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurmotus misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Taisto Kurmotus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kurmotus takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kurmotus tries to clinch but fails miserably
and van Bommel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and van Bommel counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kurmotus!
Kurmotus sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

van Bommel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kurmotus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, van Bommel has managed to get both his arms back between Kurmotus's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
van Bommel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kurmotus works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kurmotus isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. van Bommel stacks Kurmotus on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by van Bommel!
van Bommel in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
van Bommel fails to land a wild elbow strike.
van Bommel misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
van Bommel lands a nice forearm strike.
Kurmotus is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

van Bommel landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Kurmotus manages to escape and get back to his feet!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

van Bommel tries to keep at a distance but Kurmotus has taken the fight into the clinch.
van Bommel has had enough of the clinch but Kurmotus keeps him there for the moment.

Kurmotus is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. van Bommel is defending well for now.
Kurmotus misses with a body punch.
Kurmotus tries to land knees in the clinch but van Bommel avoids the damage to the body.
Kurmotus using the Thai plumb to throw knees but van Bommel has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Kurmotus is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. van Bommel is defending well for now.
Kurmotus tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and van Bommel avoids it.

van Bommel blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Kurmotus wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kurmotus misses with a body punch.

Kurmotus looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Kurmotus breaks the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark van Bommel dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice shot lands for van Bommel.

and van Bommel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kurmotus closes the distance looking to clinch
enabling van Bommel to counter with a crisp jab.
van Bommel connects with a single shot there.
van Bommel connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kurmotus's hands.
van Bommel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kurmotus wants to clinch but van Bommel slips to the side

and van Bommel counters with a single leg into guard. Kurmotus didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kurmotus has an active guard here but van Bommel has managed to pass into half guard.

Kurmotus looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and van Bommel pushes past his half guard into mount!
Kurmotus is breathing heavily.

van Bommel pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
van Bommel lands a nice shot to the head.

Kurmotus takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! van Bommel's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark van Bommel!
