PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rip James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barbara Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes to the cage accompanied by What's the difference. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rip James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barbara Boxer!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boxer throws a right and a left that James avoids nicely.
James swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Boxer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
James misses with a takedown
and Boxer counters with a low kick, right behind James 's knee.
Boxer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James with a poor takedown
and Boxer counters with a thumping low kick.
James throws a poor cross that misses
and Boxer counters with a flying knee. Nice.
James misses with an uppercut
and Boxer makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
James throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Boxer counters with a two punch combo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Boxer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! James scrambles back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boxer swinging wildly here.
Rip James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
James swings widly with a right hand
and Boxer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boxer rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Boxer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
James walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
James throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Boxer to counter with a crisp jab.
Boxer misses with a leg kick

and James counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boxer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James trying to control the position from guard on top but Boxer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boxer seems keen to control James's posture.
James wants to control from the top but Boxer keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Boxer looking for a sweep. Not yet Boxer, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James throws a one two combo.


It looks like Barbara Boxer has been cut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boxer connects with a single shot there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barbara Boxer dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Barbara Boxer's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


James with a lazy takedown attempt
and Boxer counters with a slapping leg kick.
James throws a sloppy head kick
and Boxer counters with a nice body shot.
James with a poor takedown
and Boxer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Boxer looks to throw the jab but James is out of range.
Boxer misses with a few strikes there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Boxer counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps James thinking.
James takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from James there as he acknowledges the shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James takes a shot to the body in his stride.
James is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Boxer moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Barbara Boxer!
