PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Francis Almero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Peltier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Francis Almero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Peltier!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Peltier.
No joy there for Almero, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Almero throws a hook to the side of Peltier's head but Peltier sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Almero throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Almero throws a left and a right that both miss
and Peltier counters with a right hand to the body.
Peltier keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Almero.
Almero misses with a straight right.
Almero throws the left hand but Peltier avoids the punch easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peltier lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Peltier throws a lazy uppercut

and Almero counters with a shoot takedown. Peltier fights it but they end up in guard.
Peltier wants to sweep here but Almero controlling him for the moment.
Almero is looking to work some ground and pound but Peltier has wrist control.

Peltier lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Almero!
Almero knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Peltier on the ground.
Almero is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Almero is desperately trying to improve his position but Peltier has a good base and remains in mount.
Peltier thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Peltier lands a big shot there that rocks Almero but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Poor strikes thrown by Peltier there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Almero on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Almero tries to get out of the position.
Peltier throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Peltier misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Peltier takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Almero tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Almero is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Almero manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Almero, under a barage of strikes from Peltier.
Almero is not content to let Peltier control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Peltier not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Peltier content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Peltier dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Peltier thuds his right hand into Almero's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

and Peltier counters with a one-two to the body.
Peltier swings and misses with a hook to the body.

letting Almero counter with a right hand.
Peltier rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Peltier takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Peltier tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Almero paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Almero counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Peltier thinking.

Peltier throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Almero counters with a shoot takedown. Peltier fights it but they end up in guard.
Almero has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Peltier is proving hard to escape from.
Peltier avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Peltier is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Almero is in close to Peltier's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Peltier looking for a sweep. Not yet Peltier, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Almero throws a big right hand that misses.
Peltier wants to sweep but no luck.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Almero wanted to stand there but Peltier had control of the position.

Peltier bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Almero's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peltier postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Peltier wants to control from the top but Almero keeps moving.
Peltier tries to free his leg and advance position but Almero is retaining full guard.
Almero utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Almero is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Peltier is controlling him.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Peltier wants to control from the top but Almero keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jimmy Peltier wasn't active enough on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Francis Almero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A looping hook to the body misses from Almero. Peltier does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Peltier counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Almero catches Peltier with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Peltier swings widly with a right hand
and Almero counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Peltier shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Almero sprawls well. Almero wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Peltier gets slowly back to his feet.
Almero comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Peltier takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Almero throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Peltier to counter with a crisp jab.
Almero scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Almero moves in looking to clinch but Peltier pushes him off.
Almero misses with a low kick.
Almero takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

and Peltier counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Peltier takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Peltier counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Peltier.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Peltier not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Almero manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Peltier fails to land the takedown.

Almero tries to keep at a distance but Peltier has taken the fight into the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Peltier - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Peltier misses with a punch on the inside.
Peltier stops a takedown attempt from Almero.
Peltier wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Almero throws a series of strikes that have Peltier backpedaling.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Francis Almero.
I think Almero has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
