The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGavin shoots and misses
and Mendes counters with a lovely straight right hand!
McGavin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Mendes counter with a right hand.
McGavin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Mendes to counter with a crisp jab.
Caio Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shooter McGavin.
Mendes forces McGavin back against the cage and clinches.
Mendes decides to pull guard.
Mendes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McGavin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendes is looking for a triangle here but McGavin uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Mendes gets back to half guard.

Mendes tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

McGavin blocks Mendes's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McGavin wants to control the pace but Mendes is squirming around nicely.

Mendes bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mendes gets to his feet. McGavin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
McGavin tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Mendes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McGavin!

Mendes wants to finish this one by submission but McGavin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mendes.
Mendes avoids the attempt from McGavin to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McGavin is squirming around, avoiding Mendes's attempts to control the action.
McGavin is trying to escape the mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McGavin tries to hold on but Mendes pushes him away.
Mendes breaks from McGavin's wrist control and lands an elbow.
McGavin really wants to buck Mendes off and get back to his feet.
Mendes lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
McGavin is looking to get to half guard.
McGavin tries to improve his position but Mendes has taken his back! Mendes has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will McGavin tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Mendes pushes McGavin away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
