16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tony Sparks! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Toropainen scores a takedown into full mount! Toropainen is in the full mount, landing strikes. Toropainen is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sparks has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sparks! Toropainen looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Sparks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Sparks won't allow Toropainen to sweep him here. Sparks is looking to work some ground and pound but Toropainen has wrist control. Toropainen looking to control.
Sparks landing with the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sparks trying to control but Toropainen is working from the bottom. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Sparks is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Sparks avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Toropainen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sparks is aware though and is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sparks with a flurry of punches that miss. Toropainen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sparks defends well. Toropainen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Sparks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Sparks wants to control from the top but Toropainen keeps moving. Sparks throwing strikes from guard but Toropainen blocks nicely. Toropainen keeping moving, preventing Sparks from controlling successfully. Sparks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Sparks looking to pass the guard. Sparks landing some decent shots from guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Toropainen is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Sparks has his hands clasped together but Toropainen extends an breaks Sparks's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Toropainen.
